Gordon Collins was born in Glasgow in 1969 and lived there until June 2020. His first book was a compilation of ontological/metaphysical poetry called "Restoration and Redemption". The book had personal/spiritual connotations but the aim was to convey ideas which were universal in expression and not ascribed to any dogmatic religious beliefs. His first novel was Sons of Thunder which explored the effects of deprivation on the minds and hearts of many young people growing up in Glasgow's housing schemes. Despite dealing with gritty themes and the harshness of real life, Gordon tries to thread his book with some raw humour and living hope- the power of friendship and love. Gordon was an English and Media teacher in a Glasgow Secondary School for 20 years(6 years of this in a communication disorders unit) and believes that young people need identification and connection and can find it in various ways, including through language, literature and media if they can relate to it; if it has truth in it. He hopes to try and bring this connection through his writing and film-making. At the heart of this there is also the hope that his books will be thought provoking and engaging for the reader. Gordon is also a short-film maker and aspires to write screenplays for feature films. He has a keen interest and educational background in philosophy and tries to thread this through his writing and films. He has also written a contemporary commentary on the Bhagavad Gita( an ancient epic poem from the Vedas) exploring alternative views of our true identity and the nature of the self and reality. In addition to this Gordon released an audio book which is a collaborative work of his most recent poems and the music of artist Exit-Omni.
