Norris von Schirach, born in 1963, studied business, and has worked in London, New York and Almaty. He lived in Moscow from 1993 to 2003, where he experienced all the euphoria and frustration of the Yeltsin years, when the line between organised crime and state institutions became blurred, even as large parts of the population sank into poverty. Norris von Schirach has one son, and, after spells in Kazakhstan and Australia, now lives in Romania. His first novel, Blasse Helden ("Pale Heroes"), was published under the pseudonym Arthur Isarin in 2018. 2022 his second novel, Beutezeit ("Looting Time"), was published by Penguin Verlag (Germany). "If you want to understand today’s Russia, read Norris von Schirach." Viktor Yerofeyev "Arthur Isarin’s stark, moving and strangely beautiful prose takes readers on a memorable journey into a fascinating world." New Books in German (2018)
