Philip Raymond Brown lives in Colorado with his fabulous wife, four beautiful children, and two good dogs. He has a B.A. in History and Political Science from Le Moyne College and a J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law. Brown is the author of the “Strength” series which follows retired Major turned bootlegger Mike Kelly and alien anthropologist Tashan Zho through three of the most tumultuous decades in American history. IT GIVES YOU STRENGTH is a mashup of science fiction, historical fiction, and fantasy set in prohibition-era New York. Zho is sent to the primitive planet Earth and winds up in the middle of a gang war for control of the NY/Canada rum smuggling routes. In Book Two, “Harvesting Earthlings for Fun and Profit” it is 1934 in America, the height of the Great Depression. Dr. Zho is now a refugee from his once idyllic planet Dagan. The planet is now run by a brutal dictator who uses an alien form of the Roman coliseum to distract the mere citizens of Dagan from the deterioration of their basic civil rights, while he consolidates his control over the planet. When the dictator Arixn learns that the Daganians are running low on gladiators, he decides to embark on The Harvest Project. The Daganians intend to capture Earthlings to fight in the New Coliseum. Dr. Zho and Mike Kelly oppose Arixn’s plan and enlist the assistance of historical figures Jack Dempsey, Edith Cavell, and J. Edgar Hoover. In addition, they interact with George Patton, Douglas MacArthur, and gangsters John Dillinger, Pretty Boy Floyd and Baby Face Nelson. Writing fiction is Philip’s lifelong dream, and is his second career. In 2017, he walked away from a highly successful career as a trial attorney to pursue this dream. While writing STRENGTH, he devoted his time to his family, coaching little league and youth basketball. This year, while his heroic wife, the fabulous Dr. Sarah Brown, was on the front lines of the battle against COVID 19, Philip was homeschooling their four children. As a trial attorney, he received numerous accolades, including being named to Best Lawyers in America, attaining the highest ethical/ability peer review rating (“AV”) in Martindale-Hubbell, and being listed in Super Lawyers.
