I grew up in Manchester with my family. I live a stone's throw away from the house I grew up in where my parents still live. I went to school locally and when I left school I went to work as a hairdresser. I trained in Manchester and moved jobs to work in Bury after qualifying. I got married in 1999 and had my two children a boy and girl. I recently remarried in 2019 after spending 10 years as a single parent while my children grew up. When my son was born I went to work in a call center as the hours fit my personal life. I was able to be at home with my son during the day and go to work in the evenings. I dedicated my time to my kids as my first marriage came to an end in 2004. I stayed at the call center for 16 years and progressed from being an advisor to an operations manager. working full time. Today I work full time in the financial industry as a Project & Change Manager. Now that my children have grown up, I love to walk with my four legged friend Willow. She keeps me company in my office working from home. I like to go running and keep fit which is great for my mental health. Although it is hard to stay motivated and I find lots of excuses not to run or go to the gym before forcing myself to go. I wrote my first book to help other parents like me who have an autistic child. My son is grown up now and I wanted to share my experiences to give other parents like me hope. It's very daunting when you are faced with a disability that doesn't come with instructions or a guide on how to cope. I struggled and If parents can learn from my mistakes its worth sharing.
