I like to write about women who struggle with everyday life, because I am one of them. The Question Authority is my third novel and the first one set in Brooklyn, which is where I'm from, so it's about time. I've done a lot of different things besides write novels (worst job: proofreading the yellow pages; most fun job: story editor on season 13 of Knots Landing; most hilarious job: writing the profanity-free/in-flight version of the movie Glengarry Glen Ross). I've also taught writing and screenwriting at various colleges. I've spent the last ten years working for the NYC Department of Education, where I try (sometimes successfully) to get people to write in plain language. Most of my close friends are people who went to Oberlin. I am currently living with my twentieth cat (in succession, not all at once!). Her name is The Ticket. I love animals, but I also eat them.
