Richard S. Brown was born in Elgin, Illinois. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following military service he attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, Illinois where he received a BA in political science. He attended the University of Hawaii for his MA in East Asian Studies, and then began a thirty year civilian career with the U.S. Army in civilian personnel management. Ten of those years were spent in Korea. Richard and his wife Aija live in Overland Park, Kansas. He enjoys reading history and biography.
