Sonny Barber developed an interest in American history at an early age, reading and collecting newspapers, magazines, and books on historic events and people. He’s coupled this interest with his fiction writing to create a “Mystery History” series for preteens and older. Although the series has the same protagonist and many repeat characters, each story is a stand-alone, modern-day adventure with a historical twist. Sonny and his wife have two daughters who, along with the daughters’ friends, are the inspiration for the teenage characters in the series. “There’s so much to learn about the history of the United States of America, and I fear our American heritage is being de-emphasized in our schools' curricula. My hope is that the few bits and pieces of history included in the books will bring back to readers some history already learned and encourage them to learn more about this great country.” With a degree in journalism, Sonny’s work as a writer, editor and photographer has taken him across the United States, including spending extensive time at each of the locale settings for the books to learn about the area. He and his wife even stayed a week in the lightkeeper’s house featured in Gold Hush.
