Susan Dworkin’s work covers an extraordinary range of subjects. She wrote the New York Times best seller, THE NAZI OFFICER’S WIFE, a true story of love and terror in the Third Reich, with the woman who lived it, the late Edith Hahn Beer. Her chronicle of Bess Myerson’s rise to success – MISS AMERICA 1945 – won honors from the New York State Historical Society. Susan's behind-the-camera film study – MAKING TOOTSIE (how to create a hilarious movie when you are working with people who drive you crazy) – is a must-read for movie buffs. Her novels include STOLEN GOODS, a story of love and larceny in the 80s; THE COMMONS, a futuristic tale of a farmers’ revolt led by a dazzling young pop star; and THE BOOK OF CANDY, a re-imagined Purim story starring a Long Island housewife as a contemporary Queen Esther. Her most recent novel is THE GARDEN LADY, whose heroine seeks redemption by building a great public garden in a horrific sanitary landfill. Susan was a long-time contributor to MS. MAGAZINE. Her stories often celebrated young performers who would later become superstars (e.g. Whoopi Goldberg, Meryl Streep, Danny Glover). She has produced award-winning audiobooks by great Jewish writers (e.g. I.L. Peretz, Isaac Bashevis Singer), all available on Audible. Every once in a while, she writes a play. They are listed on the NEW PLAY EXCHANGE and they are all funny. She is a popular lecturer and loves to meet her readers. You can reach her via her website, susandworkin dot com.
