Born in California, raised in Minnesota and Missouri, graduated from the College of Forestry at the University of Minnesota. Spent the middle part of my life living/playing/working in Kodiak, Alaska where I operated a sea kayaking touring business. An active member of the Outdoor Writers Association of America and the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers for over 20 years I am a freelance writer specializing in self reliance, paddle sports and other outdoor adventuring. Current writing activity includes: contributing editor/author of "Camping 101" at Sportsmansguide.com, contributing columnist of "Guidelines" at Paddling.net., newspaper columns:Appleton Press, Montevideo American-News. Books currently in the works: a guidebook of rails-to-trails routes in Minnesota, and another guidebook for Menasha Ridge Press on camper cabins in Minnesota.
