Education: MA from Univ. of NM. Reading Specialist in public schools for 15 years in Albuquerque, NM and Knights Landing, CA. I have been weaving for 15 years. Discovered my passion for weaving after traveling to Turkey several times. After dabbling with different types of weaving, I found that my real passion was in weaving rugs/wall hangings. I originally wove pieces as rugs. However, every customer I had told me there was no way they could lay my piece on the floor and walk on it. They were taking it home and hanging it. I took the hint and now mount my pieces for hanging although they are durable enough to be rugs should someone want to use them for that. In the late summer of 2009, I was diagnosed with a very large brain tumor. Immediately was hooked into the Tumor Clinic at UCSF, was told it was operable and I proceeded on to surgery. The tumor was a very slow growing tumor, likely had been there growing for 20 years. In that time, it had gotten into some difficult to get to places for the surgeon. During two different 10 hour surgeries in the fall of 2009, most of the tumor was removed. Have lost approx. 20% hearing in one ear and the eyelid on my right eye and never opened since the second surgery. Going into the surgeries, my wish was that I not be blind, as I wouldn't then be able to weave. After the surgeries, I used my walker to get to the loom, climbed onto the bench, and began weaving. What a thrill and what a healing experience. My weaving has been a fantastic outlet for me. I am able to completely relax and lose myself in the weaving experience. Being a one eyed weaver has some challenges but nothing I haven't been able to over come and push through. I hope the tumor experience and all I've learned about myself and healing has made me both a better person and a more determined weaver. In 2016, I was accepted into Amazon Handmade.
