I came to writing novels through Architecture, first getting my professional degree before going back for an MA in Creative Writing at the University of Cape Town. 'Bom Boy' (2011, Modjaji Books) was my thesis and eventually became my first novel. Afterwards 'The Woman Next Door' (2016, Chatto and Windus) and then more recently 'An Unusual Grief' (2022, Cassava Republic). My short stories and prose have been published in Caine Anthology, One World Anthology, the Kalahari Review and New Internationalist to name a few. My interest as a writer and the focus in my novels lies in examining humanity in all our idiosyncrasies, our joys but especially our shadows - why and how do we suffer; what are the ways - through love and connection - that we find repair and healing; how do we become the people we are and when change is perhaps needed or thrust upon us how do we navigate that? Some of my proudest achievements over the last decade of writing are being shortlisted for the Dublin Literary Award, shortlisted twice for the South African Sunday Times Award and being translated into 6 languages. Thanks for being interested in my work. Please read and comment. You can find me Twitter @yomotoso, Insta omotosoyewande and Facebook. You can also visit my website yewandeomotoso.com
