Nicole Johnson, Miss America 1999, is a Telly award-winning television journalist and an avid writer. Her articles on living with diabetes and wellness have appeared in Guideposts Magazine, Diabetes Forecast, Diabetes Health, USA Today and on various websites related to diabetes. She has also written seven books on diabetes topics. Nicole serves on numerous health related advisory boards including the JDRF International Board of Directors and the Florida Governor's Diabetes Advisory Council. She is also a past national board member for the American Diabetes Association and a past appointee to the National Institutes of Health Council of Public Representatives. Over the last twenty years, Nicole has helped raise over $27 million for diabetes research and programs and has been recognized for her work in diabetes around the world. Nicole has worked in television, academia and non-profit all focused on diabetes issues. Her areas of expertise include social marketing, qualitative research and community organization. Evidence of her work is represented at www.diabetesempowerment.org. Nicole has a Doctor of Public Health degree and holds Master's degrees in Journalism and Public Health.
