Salute to mille remerciements. Welcome and thank you for taking an interest in me and my work. It is an honour for me, I very much appreciate it, thank you. Here is a bit about me, beginning with the formal part. Ruth Finnegan OBE, is an anthropologist, Africanist, and multi-award author (fiction, nonfiction and screen). She was born (New Year’s Eve of1933) in the beautiful, fraught, city of Derry, Northern Ireland, and brought up there, together with several magical years in Donegal. She was educated at Ballymore First School County Donegal, The Londonderry High School, The Mount (Quaker) School York, then graduated with high first class honours in Classics and a doctorate in Social Anthropology at Oxford. This was followed by field research studying story-telling and performance in a West African village, and university teaching in Africa (Zimbabwe and Nigeria). She then joined the pioneering Open University as a founding member of the academic staff, where she spent the rest of her career apart from 3 years (and more fieldwork) at the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, and is now an Emeritus Professor. She is a Fellow of the British Academy, The Royal Anthropological Institute of Great Britain and Ireland, and the American Folklore Society, holder of the Royal Anthropological Institute’s W H Rivers Memorial Medal, and an Honorary Fellow of Somerville College Oxford. In more personal terms I have three daughters and five grandchildren and live in Old Bletchley, home of the famous Second World War code breakers in southern England, with my long-time (50+ years) husband and fellow-academic David. I go on with my academic books (look out for the recent Time for the World to,Learn from Africa and a forthcoming book - soon I hope - on taxi drivers’ lives) as well as my newer and totally ( to me) unexpected creative writing, the best known being the literary novel Black Inked Pearl. Just now I am also spending a lot of time as co-editor of the transdisciplinary Balestier young adult series ‘“Hearing Others’ Voices” and the new Oak Grove Writers and Readers’ Association ( OGWRA: https://m.facebook.com/groups/1405642982955923/?soft=search/ all welcome) Going back to my creative writing, it has actually been a real surprise to find myself writing (dream-inspired) novels and screenplays. These come to me, unplanned, in liminal in-between space as I sleep and to my astonishment have between them won many prizes. I am also amazed to find that I am also, from time to time, a librettist and poet. So, now in my eighties, I have a wonderfully full life, am I not blessed! May the same be so for you dear fellow reader. For more please visit my website: www.ruthhfinnegan.com
