ينتقل بطل الرواية مع عائلته إلى شقةٍ جديدة ولسوء الحظ فإنّ احدةً من الغرف تطل على المقبرة، تختار الابنة الكبرى الإقامة في هذه الغرفة على اعتبار بأنَّ المقبرة لا تؤذي احدًا ولكنَّ أشياء غريبة تبدأ باحصول معها إلى أن تتغير الفتاة تمامًا وتصبح شخصية غريبة تكره النّاس وتحقد عليهم وتنشر الخوف والرَّعب بين أفراد العائلة يتزامن ذلك كلّه مع انتشار بعض جرائم القتل الغامضة ..

يحلم الأب في أحد الأيام بابنته تستنجد به من أحد القبور المطلة على غرفتها وتخبره بأنَّ تلك الفتاة التي تعيش نعهم ليست هي وتدعوه لإنقاذها، يتكرّر الحلم أكثر من مرة إلى أن يقرّر الأب في النهاية الذهاب مع ابنته في رحلةٍ إلى العالم السفلي على أمل استعادتها وإنقاذها وهناك يكتشف العجائب ويرى ما لا يتخيله عقلٌ بشريّ لكن الصدمة الكبرى عندما يعرف لماذا هو من يحصل معه كلّ تلك الأمور دونًا عن غيره.
