À propos de cet audio

It has been 40 years since the publication of this classic science-fiction novel that changed the way we look at the stars and ourselves. From the savannas of Africa at the dawn of mankind to the rings of Saturn as man adventures to the outer rim of our solar system, 2001: A Space Odyssey is a journey unlike any other.

This allegory about humanity's exploration of the universe, and the universe's reaction to humanity, was the basis for director Stanley Kubrick's immortal film, and lives on as a hallmark achievement in storytelling.

Good book, fantastic narration. There’s something to be desired compared to the movie. I liked the ambiguous nature of the film, and I find Arthur over-explains some aspects of the story. Still a great listen for another perspective on the same story

Good book

Arthur C. Clarke outlines in his introductory notes (written in 2000) that this book was a collaborative effort between himself and Stanley Kubrick - before the moon landing - to make a timeless Science Fiction film.. a "theme of mythic grandeur" in Kubrick's words. They succeeded.
The book is paced like a film, includes obviously cinematic sequences, and is imagery-heavy (well-suited to the director's vision). It is also, however, fed with example after example of imaginative SciFi posits (day-to-day life on the moon, rogue artificial intelligence, extraterrestrial communication/intervention, etc). It gets a little heavy on the metaphysical side towards the end, but it's a remarkably complete book.

As to presentation: Reader Dick Hill is noticeably average.. displaying professional timbre, cadence, and tone but overenunciation, too-slow pacing, and unspectacular voice-acting. Brilliance Audio sound editors exhibit extraordinary dedication to the project, however, incorporating sound modulation effects for dialogue delivered over the radio, for example. This is an "above-average" listening product overall.

All in all, this recording of '2001' rates 9 stars out of 10. I feel very fortunate to have found it on sale.. because it merits a Credit. Can recommend.
