Description

In this thrilling novel from a number one New York Times best-selling author, Detective Lindsay Boxer takes a vow to protect a young woman from a serial killer long enough to see her 21st birthday.

When young wife and mother Tara Burke goes missing with her baby girl, all eyes are on her husband, Lucas. He paints her not as a missing person but a wayward wife — until a gruesome piece of evidence turns the investigation criminal.

While Chronicle reporter Cindy Thomas pursues the story and M.E. Claire Washburn harbors theories that run counter to the SFPD’s, ADA Yuki Castellano sizes Lucas up as a textbook domestic offender...who suddenly puts forward an unexpected suspect. If what Lucas tells law enforcement has even a grain of truth, there isn't a woman in the state of California who's safe from the reach of an unspeakable threat.

Not as good as usual.

I love the Women's Murder Club series, but this one did not fizzle and pop like the rest.

Disappointment!

I thought the story started interesting but the end of it felt like it was done with disconnect!

I was hoping for something stronger!
Also the story deviated from the focus!

Repetitive and cliche

I rarely trash a book but this one truly was poor. Its way too long as it repeats itself. Characters are poorly developpped and really predictable. Listened to that after NYPD Red. Diametrically opposed. Starting to wonder how involved James Patterson really is in these "collaborations"

plot is convoluted

I have read and enjoyed all of the women's murder club series from James Patterson with the exception of this one. I feel that the story line was simple and failed to play out in a logical way. The end was left hanging with no real understanding of "who actually dun it" I stayed the course and listened to the entire book, hoping that everything would become clear - IT DID NOT!

The side story that includes personal insights to the main characters were shallow and didn't explain why certain people behaved oddly from what was expected.

Not worth the cost and I think I'm moving on from this series. Wish I could Get my credit back!

Meh

I feel like the ending was thrown together the last 30-ish minutes. I thought I had quite a few more chapters to go for the ending but next thing I know the book was over suddenly. I would have preferred for the ending to play out over a longer length of time. It just felt rushed and unfinished.

Crazy about this series and pleased to FINALLY have a new book to visit. Just sorry that it had to end so, my wait for 22 has to begin.

I listened for about 10 minutes, shaking my head the whole time. it was like something written BY a kindergartener FOR a kindergartener.

Could have been a great story...

It’s James Patterson! But this was almost dreadful. This narrator was yawn city. I found myself actually rolling my eyes throughout the story.

Abrupt Ending

I have read/listened to all of the Women’s Murder Club books, along with many other books by James Patterson, and have never had cause to complain, until now.
The performance was perfect, but the story abruptly ends and, kind of, leaves you hanging. It’s like the case was “cut and dried”, no real mystery at all. It was almost like hearing about a murder case on the 9:00 news, and the killer was apprehended. Wham bam.
I still love the series, and this less-than-stellar book will not keep me from anxiously awaiting the next.
