Description
While awaiting trial, Lindsay escapes to the beautiful town of Half Moon Bay, but the peaceful community there is reeling from a string of unspeakable murders. Working with her friends in the Women's Murder Club, Lindsay finds a link between these killings and a case she worked on years before: an unsolved murder that has haunted her ever since. As summer comes into full swing, Lindsay battles for her life on two fronts: before a judge and jury as her trial comes to a climax; and facing unknown adversaries who will do anything to keep her from the truth about the killings, including killing again. It all comes to a head before the big annual 4th of July celebration on the waterfront at Half Moon Bay. Patterson fine-tunes the tension like never before in this heart-racing new novel in the best-selling detective series to debut in years.

Now it's getting on track.
What made the experience of listening to 4th of July the most enjoyable?
This is the one that I originally started with about five years ago that brought me into the series. It is still a very entertaining story. There is violance, but it is absolutely necessary to the storyline. The gratuitious sex and bigotry have been really toned down and no longer interrupt the flow of the plot. I am anxious to start # 5.
What was one of the most memorable moments of 4th of July?
It is all in the twist and revelation. Don't spoil it for others.
What about Carolyn McCormick’s performance did you like?
Most of her voices are distinct and easy to follow.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
They don't invite me to "reality" farces because I don't make a fool of myself over every little thing. However, in the last ten chapters I had a hard time putting the book down, which is about as intense as it gets for me.
Any additional comments?
Once again the mood music covers the narration in places.

Nice addition to series...
I would definite recommend reading this series in order, 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree then this one. And luckily Audible has them all. This is a nice addition to the series and kept my interest throughout. I enjoyed the narrator as well. Listened to them with friends on a car trip to Oklahoma....time sped by.

Action packed but not always accurate
The opening chapters – WOW! And then the action never stops. The story moves along at a fast clip. Actually, there are two seemingly separate story lines that are combined in this book.
One of the things that I love about the Patterson books is the short, action-packed chapters. There are many places to stop and get some sleep, even though you don’t want to put the book down.
This book focuses on Lindsay Boxer and there are only a few mentions of the Women’s Murder Club members: Claire (Medical Examiner) and Cindy (News Reporter).
Lindsay’s previous partner, Inspector Warren Jacobi, takes a larger role at the beginning and end of the book; so the reader gets to know him better. In this novel he is more human and less hard core. He even has a few funny lines. Is this the doing of the new calibrator, Maxine Paetro? There are very short mentions of Joe, Lindsay’s love interest. In fact, they added nothing to either story lines.
As the book moved along I guessed the first killer but I was shocked by the others.
Loved the book and it’s fast pace and would recommend it.
That said I still cannot give it a five star. There are tons of errors but the one that really stands out is at the trial conclusion when the jury brought in a “not guilty” verdict. This was a civil trial. Civil trials are about money and so was this trail. In a criminal trail the jury hands down a guilt or innocence verdict. In a civil trail the finding is either for the plaintiff or the defendant. Civil trails have nothing to do with guilt or innocence.

Audible disappointment
I agree with many of the other reviewers that Patterson's books are getting old and predictable (although this one was a teensy bit raunchy... a la Tami Hoag) the biggest let down was not the writing but the musical background added to the text itself. I have found that it spoiled several suspenseful moments for me and I'm still a little bitter about it. *sigh*

I'm addicted to this series.
Would you consider the audio edition of 4th of July to be better than the print version?
I prefer to read the book but I've begun listening to audio books at work. I am disappointed to see the books get more expensive as you go along. I'm to book 7 and it's $22..are you kidding me?
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes, as with the rest of the series, it's a page turner.
