Great Pandemic Story…
Kind of a long listen… a little repetitive but a pleasure to listen to the narrator… nice little twist at the end…

A good-enough story by a great author.
it was a slow burn for me, but the surprises were good. I don't know why I thought that reading a fiction novel that involved the current pandemic was a worthwhile thing to do 😄 3.5 stars

A bit disappointing
I discovered it is a bit too soon for me to listen to a COVID based mystery, especially with the new variant on the rise. I want an escape, not a reminder of it.
The back and forth timeline and word for word repetition of certain scenes was confusing and irritating at times.
I felt really sorry for the main character, Oliver. It all felt so pointless by the end.
The narration was well done.

Maybe just too soon for me
Good story but LOTS of Covid lockdown details that would have felt dystopian two years ago but are all too familiar and not very interesting any more since we are all still living through it.

You GOT me Ms. Howard.. Well done!!
I first listened to 'The Liar's Girl' by Catherine Ryan Howard because it was offered as part of the Audible Unlimited Library. I was so impressed after listening. I was shocked that I got to listen to such a wonderful thriller 'for free.'; When I saw she had a new book, I had to spend the credit and have a listen. I am so glad I did.
Very rarely does a writer surprise me with a twist that I didn't see coming with some kind of foreshadowing ahead of time. I was so pleasantly surprised and a little shocked that I saw none of the ending coming.. and the best part is, none of it was irrational or implausible.
I am a real fan of Catherine Ryan Howard. Irish writers like she and John Boyne have so much to offer readers (and listeners!).
Perfectly narrated, deliciously twisty, and.. you won't see it coming! Listen carefully!
5 BIG stars!!

Disappointed
The story drug on in the beginning but improved half way through. While I am living through this pandemic, reading about it was too soon. Mediocre book.

Another great one
There isn’t much I can say about this author other than she’s just.. fantastic!! Her stories are engaging and just so good. I was waiting for this and so happy to have listened! Can’t wait for more from this author, I’ve already read and loved all of her other books!

Third Howard Binge
I started with one book and 3 days later here I am on a 3rd book of Howard’s. Just when I think I know how the end will go, I end up dropping my jaw and staying hooked. I felt so sad and connected to each of the main characters, I stopped to wonder why no one seems to end up whole in Howard’s books, but it all makes sense.
About to listen to the next one. Also Ms. Collins entirely absorbs you into the story to such an extent I felt tears starting to flow towards the end… you FEEL the angst, the love, the pain… wow.

Twistception
Twists are fun, but this was just a layering of twists to the twists. A little overkill, in my opinion. Who was who on the back-and-forth timeline got a bit confusing, too, though I know that was part of the point. The narrator was fantastic, though!

Disjointed
The story started out interesting, even with the word-for-word repetition of segments with added observations from the 2 main characters’ points of view. Adding the journalist, Laura/Lauren?, did not end up augmenting the story. Of the 2 twists at the end, only 1 was supported by what came before. The investigators were interesting but in the end, superfluous.

Loved it!
At first I thought I wouldn’t enjoy a story with anything to do about the pandemic, but honestly, I became so engrossed in the story and characters right from the start. I felt like I could’ve been strolling the canal or sitting in a coffee shop with the them because of how relatable and natural everything felt. Thought the plot development was great too- love CRH’s writing style. Felt all the emotions on both sides of the tragedy. I traveled everywhere with my headphones just so I could listen on the go. So good!
