Having experienced his first survival type Trial, Trent Embra is eager to explore what else the world has to offer.

There is only one problem. Not everyone comes away from a month of constant fighting untouched. Trent's friend Tersa is unhinged by her time in the Land of the Undying Lord, and Sergeant Cullen means to see her fixed. Enlisted to help, Trent is dragged toward another Trial, mostly willingly. Only time will tell if Tersa still has a place in the Guard and what the Infinite World has in store for Trent.

The characters are likable, story flows well and keeps you interested. I find there is a healthy amount of good comedy in this book, though I do wish the character Tersa would mature. that is all, definitely getting the next book

I literally cancelled plans for coffee with friends and skipped another planned activity so I could keep listening. If I didn't need sleep I may have listened all in one go. Great narration and conituation of the story began in book 1. I love character developement stories, and this certainly is that.

story follows along with not just Trent this time. it follows along and expounds and expands upon other members of the world. some people you will see in the reviews will complain about that. But how do you build a world when it's only from one perspective? The answer is you don't. so with this book we meet many new people and they all have some interesting aspects to them that I am more than positive will expound into the next book or more in the series.
The fighting is well described, Trent and his mental state are definitely well described and shown how it just hurts for him to be him. A boy brought into the world with no past and somebody who had no idea how to work a bond.
cannot wait to listen to book 3.

was a good book but when the ending started I was left a bit feeling like oh it's over just like that? i don't know I didn't hate it or anything just had higher expectations after how good the first felt

The characters, even the minor or throw away ones, felt like they lived and breathed. JT is a fantastic author and Tim Campbell does an excellent performance bringing the book to life.

little slower than the previous book and not as much substance. still an important part of the journey for young Trent and will likely setup the next book nicely.
