Taken by mistake

Taken by mistake... But a good classic ! Dickens being Dickens. Strange to read three month after Christmas thought.

What a delightful listen!

I love this novella and have read it annually for years now. This drama stayed close to the book (it's about the same listening time as an unabridged read). I thought each of the characters were well performed and memorable. To me, the only con was Cranham as Scrooge. Imo, his performance was under played. It was quite good, but not brilliant. But he had big shoes to fill with Alastair Sim in the 1951 movie. Regardless, I wholly recommend this drama and definitely will listen to this next Christmas and the year after (along with Hugh Grant's narration of the story). It was a really delightful way to spend a few hours!

The best Dickens audible book

The perfect dose of Dickens which I listened to in a day. The amazing cast of voice actors made the story come to life.

Classic

Of course I've read and watched the story many times before. This one still managed to make me shed a tear or two. Just as relevant today as it was when it was written

A very good Adaptation

This presentation of a beloved tale takes a modicum of license. Some of the dialogue does not appear in the original manuscript. The writers, however, have kept faith with the original for the most part - adding dialogue to fill in parts of the original text they thought needed clarification. I personally think they're wrong (it didn't need further exploration).. but the result is delightful. A family would thoroughly enjoy this version on a Christmas afternoon while preparing dinner.

A full cast of characters present this tale. It basically reads as a very well-executed Screenplay. The performances here are exceptionally good. Sound effects and music are added to provide a slick presentation. The degree of production puts it in danger of being over-produced ..but doesn't quite get there. Rather, it is excellent.

The end result of combining unparalleled writing and great performance is an entertaining production. [The original, I must say, is still quite a bit better - I can recommend the version read by Hugh Grant (also available on Audible)] This dramatization/interpretation is still easily worth 8 stars out of 10.

Beautifully Performed Adaptation of Dicken's Tale

This is one of the best adaptations of A Christmas Carol I have ever listened to or watched. No scenes have been cut for time (as often happens with film adaptations) so you get the full emotional experience that Dicken's created with his story.

Sir Derek Jacobi's narration is pitch-perfect. It is always in perfect sync with the tone of each scene so it never undercuts the emotional impact of the events.

All of the performers are perfectly cast. Usually, with audio plays, I have favorite performances as well as performances that I think could have been done better. But each of these performances are so well done that I don't have a favourite performance nor one that I consider a "weak link".

If you only buy one audiobook of Dicken's Christmas classic, make it this one.

Fantastic read, completely captivating!!

I was hooked from the beginning. The story I thought I knew. I loved every min of it, and played it just to keep me awake while driving, and soon found I was doing what I needed to do to quickly get back to the story.

An All-Star Cast you can't go wrong with!

From the first word to the last, I sat enthralled. I've ever adored Dicken's A Christmas Carol in all of it's tellings! First reading the book in childhood, it's an annual tradition to read it, watch it and now listen to it for myself and my family. I have never enjoyed an audio version of this story quite as much as this one! There are such memorable characters, cherished friends I carry from year to year and the cast made them all the more endearing to me. Kudos to Audible Studios on such a splendid vision of a timeless classic of love, life and redemption!

A Ghostly Christmas Classic

I mean, how do you review A Christmas Carol? The book is a hugely influential classic. I guess I can only say this: I enjoyed this novel, along with the story's themes about compassion, forgiveness, and greed. What made this edition even better, though, is that this was full-cast production, which truly brought the text to life - it felt like being at a play (minus the visual aspect).

I highly recommend this audiobook for a dramatized version of a ghostly Christmas tale.
