Description

A new, original novella in the A Court of Thorns and Roses series that picks up several months after the events of A Court of Wings and Ruin.

Months after the explosive events in A Court of Wings and Ruin, Feyre, Rhys, and their companions are still busy rebuilding the Night Court and the vastly-changed world beyond. But Winter Solstice is finally near, and with it, a hard-earned reprieve. Yet even the festive atmosphere can't keep the shadows of the past from looming. As Feyre navigates her first Winter Solstice as High Lady, she finds that those dearest to her have more wounds than she anticipated - scars that will have far-reaching impact on the future of their Court.

So disappointing after enjoying the other three bo

I was so frustrated with this last book. I thought I was going to learn more. Nope. The author kept hinting of more but then nothing. Is this because there could be another book? Is seems unlikely. it seemed as though the author was obligated to write another book but then what. Let’s just write about shopping and ... So let’s start by saying this book was almost entirely useless.

Basically Feyre and Rhys need to retire and let secondary characters finally have the spotlight.* The only POVs I genuinely enjoyed were Cassian’s and Nesta’s. and let’s just say they only get a short Cameo scene. I think SJM has a talent but to ruin the series by writing this book causes one to 🤔. But as this is the last one ... maybe will we find out more about the secondary characters? Who knows? And maybe I just don’t care.

Speaking more generally, this book was just mostly bad. I liked most of the series but this last one book was definitely not needed since nothing happened it was like watching an episode of Seinfeld but at least we know nothing is supposed to happen on that show. I kept listening to this book hoping for more but I wasted 6 plus hours hoping only to 🤬🥱😖🤬

Loved but disappointed

I loved this series i fell in love with it as soon as I started reading the first book the story is amazing and always had me wanting more but this book was very disappointing as it was so short and I feel there was so much left unfinished and so many questions unanswered if there was a fifth book it would be fine but as this being the last one I was very sad at how it just ended with out full closure it saddens me that so many of us will never the answers to all the questions we have and all the characters will never get there happy endings they deserve

Sloppy

If you liked the rest of the series, don't bother with this one. The only action is between the sheets, and the story line lags. It's disappointing how the author has developed these beautiful, rounded characters throughout the other books, and then just drops them here.

My Favorite Series!

This review is for the whole 'A Court of Thorns and Roses' series.
This has become my go to listening book series for when I'm in between books or just want to revisit a good book. The books keep you on your toes, there's lots of action, romance and comedy. You can't help but fall in love with each of the characters. Jennifer Ikeda does a great job narrating the first two books and Amanda Leigh Cobb is just as fantastic narrating the last two books. I can't wait for Sarah J Maas to write the next book in this exciting series.

Just a Christmas (solstice special)

I had to force myself to finish because I paid for it.
Not satisfying at all! I really enjoyed the previous books but this one was so blah
No ends tied up it literally felt like a Christmas special tv show
It was all about shopping and finding the right gift
Blah blah save your time and money

Nice middle novella

I disagree with other reviews for this book. I actually thought it was really good. It gave insight into other characters that we only got a slight taste of before. I also kind of liked that it was not super action packed. It was a nice middle story.

can't get enough love it

I absolutely can't get enough of this series this book in particular is exactly what you're looking for post to trilogy after a war after everything said and done it's the story of them starting to go back to normal and discovering their own normal it's not all flowers but it's not constant rear and broken it's so real you would think she saw. in a post-war recovery room everyday for months to create it the fact that the characters are coping and growing and they're all handling it in different ways listening to the way that they're all growing up dealing with the trauma of everything from the first three books is absolutely wonderful this is that happy epilogue that you want still has a little bit of darkness the shadows lurking but not enough to ruin the euphoria.

as always highly recommend Maas is the kind of writer that makes you wish you could write.

Disappointing

There is only one word to describe this book...Disappointing!!
With each of the other 3 books that left you wanting more...This did not live up to the series.

Disappointment

As a HUGE fan of this series... this was such a disappointment. Paint, buy gifts, and no questions answered. That is the book pretty much summed up. I know that this was a bridge to spin offs but this could have been done so much better. I almost wish that I would never have read it and just read the spin offs.

I wanted sooooo much more out of this book after waiting so long for it!

Boring

I am a diehard fan of this series. That said, this could not have been more of a disappointment. This wasn’t a book, rather it was a short story of two weeks in the lives of characters who are normally complex and are simply in between stories and aren’t sure what to do. There is overwhelmingly long and unnecessary description of shopping for presents, overwhelmingly long and unnecessary description of opening presents, totally unnecessary descriptions of Feyrah having a period, completely ridiculous scenes of warlords having a snowball fight, and heavens above can all the obsession with painting just stop? It is too cliché for this series. Basically the whole thing is just far reaching and doesn’t give us any bit of the characters we have come to love. There is not a plot, it’s simply them existing in Valaris before a plot actually happens. Nothing that happened in the war at the end of the last book seems to matter. Nesta couldn’t be more annoying and tortured, same with Lucian. Nobody has evolved. It seems like an unnecessarily long introduction to a book that never happened. I think all 229 pages could have been summarized in one short chapter.

If a Book Series Had a Christmas Special ...

That's basically what this is. While I knew it was a novella, I was hoping for something akin to Tower of Dawn, where we'd see more of the story/character arc for some of the other characters.
If you just want to visit with the characters you should enjoy it. I was hoping for a bit more.

Bring Jennifer Ikeda back

I absolutely love this series, but I struggle through the current narrator's performance. There is way more distinction between characters and their personalities, and characters speaking and the narrator with Jennifer Ikeda's performance in ACOTAR and ACOMAF.
Every single character has lost something in this book's performance. They actually feel like completely different versions of themselves that aren't as complex and well-rounded as they were before.
I never thought a voice performance could change a story and its characters so much, but here we are.

The book itself is a wonderful companion to ACOWAR. It's great to learn more about Velaris and how everyone is fairing after the war. It definitely leaves you looking forward to the next book.

Disappointing

I absolutely loved all the previous books in this series. But this one is just painful. It seems like it was written in a rush, the story and characters are flat and it lacks the emotion and humour of the previous books.

I’m really not happy with the narrator. Her voice barely changes between characters, making things very confusing. The way she reads Rhys’ parts really bothers me. I hope there’s a new narrator for the rest of the series.

Disappointing

I absolutely loved the first 3 books of this series. This was my favorite series for a long time. I think that ACoWaR would have been better had they kept Jennifer Ikeda- she's an amazing narrator, and really brings each character to life. It's so easy to tell who is talking when she narrates a story.

This book was so disappointing. Up until now, all of the books were from one point of view. I could have managed the sudden switch to different POVs had the narrator differentiated the voices. Amren has a stilted speech pattern, but everyone else sounds the same. Without the beginning of each chapter stating whose POV it is, you just have to listen long enough to pick up context clues (so beware if you have to pause for a while). It felt very forced to have Feyre change her mind from wanting to spend time with Rhys and figure out what her life is now to deciding to give him her 'gift' in 6 months. Especially considering that they see one another so little and they know that there are still battles to be fought in the near future.

Like another reviewer stated, it felt like a Christmas Special. I've been so excited for this to come out, and am so disappointed by both the story and the narration.

Nothing happens in this book

I have loved this series...but this book was terrible. It was nothing but a romance novel. No plot. Nothing happens. I cannot even begin to describe how disappointed and underwhelmed I was when I finished listening. I cannot believe Sarah j. Maas would put her stamp of approval on this book.

Just a “filler” book

So this was just a “filler” book as I call them. It should not have been marketed as a whole book and should have been a .5, not the next full book in this series. It was short and not a lot of important things going on, or anything for that matter. Pretty sure this was just a book for the author to make more money. Also, the main character, is not the same as she was. In the past books she was strong and independent, in this book... she’s a busy body upper middle class person that drinks wine every night and leads a boring life. Not to mention that this book should have also been titled “50 Shades Of Fairy” because all they talk about is how much they enjoy having “relations” with one another... eye roll. Best advice, don’t waste your credit, you’ll just be disappointed.

story was lacking compared to the previous books

I was so excited to read the latest book in this series the previous books was fantastic and so disappointed after reading this one. I thought the writer would have explored the others relationship some more.eg the sisters and the shadow singer. even the banter between them was disappointing.

The story is quite disappointing. The book reads much like a fan fiction rather than a series.
