The performance was good by the voice actor and was very clear. The first book was very enjoyable and was exciting. The second book developed the characters well and progressed the story in interesting ways. The third book lost itself a bit with the introduction of a zany character that does not fit the setting very well. Overall though a excellent listen.

Judy is a fine character, I didn’t put much into her identity as it confused me, they explained early on why she was non-binary. But when character spoke of her using they/them. It tore me from the story I was enjoying.

Instead of being immersed in the world. I enjoy sci-fi for the fantasy aspect and putting modern at the time political stuff like that ruins the immersion.

It felt forced into the story.
The narrator I enjoy his voice, it took a bit to get used too at first. Then it just became what it should be.

The author threw in some steampunk character is then 2nd or 3rd book and while it was okay, the male characters name was another moment of making me question it.

If you like cyberpunk, definitely start with this 3 books set and see how you like it.

I’m now onto book 4 and plan to finish the series.

If I could go back in time i wouldn't buy it.

Narrator is excellent. The way he portrays characters bring them to life.

The writing is ok at best. While I have nothing against non-binary characters the inclusion of they/them and modern politics just keeps breaking me out of the story. Additionally characters feel like they are stuck in a specific archetype and stay there.

The plot is about the same thing anyone can expect from the standard genre.

I came to this book after reading the likes of Neuromancer. I was hoping it would live up to that standard. clearly it did not. I should have known when the title of this book literally is the title of the genre. the characters are fairly flat for most purposes and one-dimensional. the hero is determined, if someone dull. and there's a character in here who's only purpose is to remind us that nerds are lovable and we give pop culture references. the performance by the narrator is probably the one good thing from the book. he tries his breath to give each character a distinctive voice and does narrate the book clearly.
