À propos de cet audio
Frances Wynn, the American-born Countess of Harleigh, enjoys more freedom as a widow than she did as a wife. After an obligatory year spent mourning her philandering husband, Reggie, she puts aside her drab black gowns, leaving the countryside and her money-grubbing in-laws behind. With her young daughter in tow, Frances rents a home in Belgravia and prepares to welcome her sister, Lily, arriving from New York - for her first London season.
No sooner has Frances begun her new life than the ghosts of her old one make an unwelcome appearance. The Metropolitan police receive an anonymous letter implicating Frances in her husband's death. Frances assures Inspector Delaney of her innocence, but she's also keen to keep him from learning the scandalous circumstances of Reggie's demise. As fate would have it, her dashing new neighbor, George Hazelton, is one of only two other people aware of the full story.
While busy with social engagements on Lily's behalf, and worrying if Reggie really was murdered, Frances learns of mysterious burglaries plaguing London's elite. The investigation brings death to her doorstep, and Frances rallies her wits, a circle of gossips, and the ever-chivalrous Mr. Hazelton to uncover the truth.

Fun listen but very predictable
as usual Sarah Zimmerman's rendition is amazing. Even though the story is predictable it's easy listening and fun.

Fun listen.
Well read, not great literature but well written. A light satire of British proper etiquette.

Boring and ...
I ran out of patience with this book almost instantly. I won't lie, I detest reading period books set in Britain but with an American import as lead and this book didn't change my mind.
This was a seriously boring, tedious and overly dramatic book. So much so that I skipped from Chapter 7 to 17, and other than a new murder, I continued listening to the rest of the book, without feeling like I'd missed anything. That is NOT the sign of a good book.
The murderer isn't even deduced; they expose themselves and confess everything in the last 20 minutes of the book. Though her sister, visiting from the US, came across as a very disrespectful 13 or 14 year old, rather than an 18/19 year old, she seemed to have more common sense than the female lead.
I almost instantly disliked the female lead. I first thought she was smart when it came to the hole in the floor, but that thought was quickly extinguished. I thought she was going to be this high class female sleuth, but she couldn't sus out, let alone catch a killer to save her life and EVERYTHING needed to be laid out by others for her to then remark "I never would have thought of that" and become ridiculously alarmed as a result.
Let's not talk about the fact that she cried almost EVERYTIME someone mentioned her dead husband. The same husband that she states she never loved, the same husband who was a cheater and the same husband found dead in their house in the room of one of his mistresses who was staying with them at the time. Funny part is she had no idea he was cheating on her NONE, but everyone around her did. You have got to have your head in the sand if you can't tell your husband is cheating, even when he is doing it in your house, while you are also in the house. Everytime someone mentioned his discretion or that he was using her for money, she suddenly had wetness on her face and a bewilderment about why she was crying
If you are expecting an in-your-face romance, you will not get that here. This book focuses a lot on the murder(s) and so little on the romance, I didn't even realize there was one until I read it in a review!
