À propos de cet audio

In this scientifically informed account of the changes occurring in the world over the last century, award-winning broadcaster and natural historian shares a lifetime of wisdom and a hopeful vision for the future.
See the world. Then make it better.

I am 93. I've had an extraordinary life. It's only now that I appreciate how extraordinary.

As a young man, I felt I was out there in the wild, experiencing the untouched natural world - but it was an illusion. The tragedy of our time has been happening all around us, barely noticeable from day to day -- the loss of our planet's wild places, its biodiversity.

I have been witness to this decline. A Life on Our Planet is my witness statement, and my vision for the future. It is the story of how we came to make this, our greatest mistake -- and how, if we act now, we can yet put it right.

We have one final chance to create the perfect home for ourselves and restore the wonderful world we inherited.

All we need is the will to do so.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"The eminent traveler and naturalist delivers a combination of memoir and manifesto, the first leisurely, the second earnest....Recognizing that we are at a tipping point, Attenborough is refreshingly optimistic, noting that one thing humans do well is solve problems. Anyone concerned with the planet's ecological future will want to spend time with this excellent book."—Kirkus Reviews, starred review

A Life on Our Planet is a hugely accessible and engaging read. I especially enjoyed the early chapters, where Attenborough reflects on how he became the BBC’s naturalist and presenter, there’s a warmth and curiosity there that’s impossible not to love.

The book then shifts into a clear, chilling account of how rapidly we are degrading the very habitat that sustains us. Attenborough lays out the evidence with his trademark clarity: calm, measured, but unmistakably alarming.

Six years ago, he ended the book on a hopeful note, insisting that “Everything is set for us to win this future… We know what to do… There is a path to sustainability.” His optimism felt grounded in possibility if only we pushed our leaders to act. He gave instances where clear results have been seen. But reading it now, in a moment when climate change denial has gained political ground (Trump being key in this) and global temperatures keep rising, that hope feels far more fragile. His solutions remain sound, but the political will to implement them seems to be slipping away.

What a comprehensive and interesting book by one of my hero's. I loved listening to it in Sir David's voice but it is such a great resource that I've bought the hard copy as well.

Very informative
