I struggled with the voice narrating, I found it to sing songy at will avoid moving forward

This book would have been so much more appreciated to me if it was well narrated. It had a good story but my goodness Megan Kelly as a narrator is the downfall of 3 different books I have recently read. So annoying.
Authors should know when they pick someone with such a terrible sing songie, question mark at every sentence sort of voice it becomes annoying to listen to.
I have never taken 3 weeks to finish a book ever. Because I’m encouraged by a good narrator to continue the journey of listening.
This was a chore for me to do. The narrator’s voice was the same right through this book. No change in tone, no uplifting voice. Just ZERO emotion. And the voice after 10 minutes got on my nerve.
I will start looking who is narrating the books and if ever I see Megan Kelly again it will be a NO for me.
The book itself had a good story if you truly wanted to drown out that voice and listen . However, it was too much description of mundane things and too much reflection on the part of the protagonist.
I was not a fan. I only finished it because I hate to give up.

Unfortunately, Bonnie Traymore is never going to win any writing awards. Her vocabulary/prose are limited and she seems obsessed with sex and salaciousness (e.g. we Do Not need to know about investigative reporter Tara's f**k-buddy relationship with a trainer at her gym - it adds precisely *zero* to the plot). She pens an interesting enough tale about a husband who goes missing in the midst of marital & financial difficulties.. which features a vast array of suspects. The author does a nice job of exploring personalities & motivations.. but the sophomoric dialogue and odd focus on sexual proclivities among the characters is very much "night-class creative writing assignment" quality.

As to presentation: Reader Meghan Kelly is a distinctly "average" performer. To be certain, Kelly is an outstanding voice actor (her male characters sound realistically male, for example).. but Pathways Publishing Inc. could have gotten similarly effective results with any professional narrator.

Altogether, 'A Little Getaway' merits 4.5 stars out of 10. It was an adequately distracting 'Plus' selection.. but not worth a Credit should they ask for one. Better options beckon.

Disappointingly Amateurish

It was kinda hard to get the story because the narrator‘s voice as the narrator in the book had the wrong voice in inflections on her sentences. She needed to make it sound like she was actually talking to someone… I could never imagine a person truly talking this way.
