The male narrator’s intonation is incredibly repetitive from sentence to sentence - it’s halting, lilts at the end of the sentence, and he over pronounces the last word in almost every sentence. He’s also all about a hard pause after each sentence. It is super distracting and I had to work far too much to ignore it in order to focus on the story. Did he not listen back to any of his performance? Didn’t anyone before publishing this? For the life of me, I don’t understand how anyone would think he did even a passable job. The female narrator was excellent and I really wish she had been the one to read the whole thing.

Male Narrator: weird AI or oblivious human?

why does it sound like the male reader is ai?? who proof listened to this and went "yep. that's what the listeners want to listen to for hours" the lilting almost made me dnf. super disappointed.

love the book but why

The story was great but the performance by the male reader (Liam Price) was terrible and if it wasn’t for the female reader I would have abandoned the book. He made me cringe every time he spoke, I lost pieces of the story.
Thank goodness for the female actor or else I would’ve dropped the books.
First book in the series didn’t have him, he started with the second and I really hoped that he would have been cut.
I’ve listened to many books and he’s the worst I’ve ever heard.

Great story but male reader was terrible

Where to begin....I listened to the books before this one, but dear gods, this was terrible. PWP, and the male.voice acting had me cringing EVERY Bastian chapter. Not quite robotic, but his cadence and pitch variations were exactly the same in every single sentence, whether he was angry or sad or happy...Totally distracting from the plot to the point I don't even remember what I listened to because I only finished it to say I didn't waste the credit.

leave the series where it was and spin a story in your head. You're better off.

BTW, the female narrator was excellent. as always.

The female narrator is the best I’ve ever heard. But as others have mentioned, I have no idea what the male narrator was thinking. He has what would be such a perfect voice but ruins the Bastian chapters with his cadence and upward inflection after every sentence. It’s so formulaic it almost sounds like a voice generator or something.

The story was solid, I like the characters, I thought it was decent ending for Kat and Bastian’s story.
