Histoire
At 30 years of age, Susan Jennings has long been considered a spinster. Exceptionally intelligent, she has little tolerance for London and the dreaded Season - if that’s how one is expected to find love, it’s not for her. But when an invitation arrives that cannot be ignored, Susan leaves her comfortable life in the country and enters the fashion and frivolity she most despises. She quickly discovers, however, that there is more to loathe in London - and his name is George Kendall.

Lord Farnsworth would rather rot in debtor’s prison than sell the one place that feels like home to him - his mother’s manor. That is, until he meets the woman who wants to buy it. Sally Duncan is beautiful, intelligent, and as rich as a baron. All he needs to do is sell her his beloved manor and then charm her to the altar, and the manor will be his again. Simple, right? But nothing is simple when Sally starts tearing apart his ancestral home and renovating it in a way no one would consider tasteful.

The last thing Amelia Kennington wants is to participate in the London Season. But the daughter of a duke is not afforded such opinions. She must put forth a subdued facade, but beneath it is a well-hidden fire that surfaces only when provoked—such as when an overly familiar gentleman startles her and she falls into the Serpentine.

Description
Does love have a chance if she doesn’t play by the rules?
Lady Patience Kendrick was born to a life of privilege, and with the London Season looming, she finds herself facing unprecedented pressure to adhere to the rules of society. Unfortunately, the free-spirited young woman is anything but proper. Patience’s elder brother, a former military man, bemoans his sister’s antics - but when he accuses her of incurable frivolity, it is simply more than she can bear. Determined to prove her brother wrong, Patience undertakes a drastic experiment: She will disguise herself as a maid and demonstrate her ability to work as hard as anyone.
Taken on as household staff by her brother’s former general, Patience soon learns that willingness and ability are two very different things. While her plan sounded promising in theory, the reality is that she is out of her depth - and the irresistibly charming son of the house isn’t helping matters. Patience soon finds herself embroiled in a charade far more complicated than she imagined. With both her pride and her heart at stake, she is determined to prove her brother wrong - even as her plans spiral delightfully out of control.

Giggles, tears, joy and longing
This is the BEST love story I’ve read in a very long time. It’s one id put up there voting for an outlander series, where we continue reading on about their lives; a prequel for mama, whatever happens with her older brother, his father, and the family they make together.
As a novelist myself I can’t get past how beautiful it is to read the ongoing story of a GOOD writer either characters you love, as these ones, where you want to see the rest of their lives unfold. I am always happy for an epilogue, but another few stories following their lives and their romance, tragedies, and joy makes a good story an epic magnificence. THIS story has the power to do that, Esther Hatch has the ability to pull that together as she is such a capable writer, in short supply in these days of self publishing.
Ms Hatch, I have to read all your books now, but wow. Just wow. My new favorite author.
