The books starts off pretty weak giving an overview of the Island on which the story set, quoting a Wikipedia article, and then moving into a description of shells. My first listening session was at bedtime so this was ideal for helping me sleep. From there though things picked up, introducing a protagonist surrounded by a cast of poorly-fleshed out friends, potential love interests, colleagues and suspects. Too many characters overall for my taste, although I did appreciate the number of female characters as too many cozies only have one reasonable female character with the rest being ridiculous or rivals. It ended up being an average cozy with obvious clues, unrealistic characters and an unearned resolution, no worse than the majority of what is flooding the cozy market. The reader is pretty good but her accents are comically heavy. Why 3 stars? I like cozies!
