À propos de cet audio

In this exuberantly praised book - a collection of seven pieces on subjects ranging from television to tennis, from the Illinois State Fair to the films of David Lynch, from postmodern literary theory to the supposed fun of traveling aboard a Caribbean luxury cruiseliner - David Foster Wallace brings to nonfiction the same curiosity, hilarity, and exhilarating verbal facility that has delighted readers of his fiction, including the bestselling Infinite Jest. Enjoyed for the most part this what the author claims was “pure fiction” start to finish. While David Foster Wallace appeared to enjoy and speak highly of his Pro Tennis experience he also(appears) to dump all over the Cruise Ship industry from the start dubbing the ships Captain as “Mr. Dermititus” and from there thru to the stories conclusion finding seemlessly EVERYTHING wrong with all aspects of his Cruise such as his endless rant of sharks at the dinner table to the point of the entire table telling him emphatically to “Shut Up!!”,and from there whining about being denied his request for a bucket of Shark bait,to which he blames “Captain Dermatitus”. Not until the books conclusion where he confesses that ALL was “pure fiction”. My concern as one who has enjoyed a small number of cruises is that someone considering a cruise first time hearing his bitching and complaining that said complaining would be considered actual cruise experiences and thus someone would opt to give cruising a pass which would be most unfair and unfortunate. FACT: Cruises are what the guest chooses,no one forces anything on anyone.
