I’ve heard of KJ Charles’ writing, but haven’t had the chance to dive in yet. Seeing this Audible Original seemed like the perfect chance to start.

I had so much fun with this story. Narrators James Joseph and Ryan Laughton inject warmth, humour and strength to Toby and Miles, making them come alive. Lately, I’ve been listening to full production audiobooks with sound effects, but this more traditional reading of a story still kept me engaged, partly due to the great voice work. Sometimes novellas don’t leave enough room for a romance to develop believably, but that was not the case here. Charles focuses on the heart of what matters: Miles and Toby’s relationship. Both men are lost and wandering in life, a bit damaged in their relationships with their families, and need each other to repair the pieces. The development of their slightly enemy-to-lovers relationship felt realistic. It is definitely an open-door romance; I enjoyed the spicy scenes that added to the feeling of intimacy (even the opening scene of them hooking up in the back alley way served to show their instant attraction). I loved that the story also had a little adventure and mystery too, with a missing necklace, a crumbling manor, and a stolen bracelet (and the lengths Miles and Toby went to get it back!)

A Thief In The Night is a story of desperation, choices, stability, fathers, and trust. This novella served as a wonderful introduction to the world that Charles has created in her Gentlemen of Unfortunate Fortune series, and made me want to spend more time with her writing (especially since realizing she is the author of both the Doomsday romance and Will Darling Adventure books that I have eyed before!).

This was a good light listen as I'm occupied with other tasks. It was a cute but not overly flowery story. Appreciated the different voices for the narration. Definitely will look into other works by this author.

The story was really light and because of it's shortness, the characters development was kind of funny and unrealistic. The story was also incredibly cheesy, but if that's what you're looking for then it's the perfect book. Because of the double narrators with different voices for the same characters, it was difficult to follow who was talking or thinking at times. In general, it was a good, light read.

Nice novella, a story line that had one titled person who was convincingly prepared (and had a sound reason) to be prepared to walk away from that for his own HEA.

I do feel that this was let down by the narration and the beyond irritating YA type cover.

The voice acting felt like the book was of an academic nature, rather than a romance. Every now and then it would be okay, but I had to stop before I could reach the end of chapter 5.
