À propos de cet audio

After being viciously stabbed and left for dead, Hadrian Becket, Earl of Ravenhurst, struggles back to health only to discover he is cursed with a vexing ability to see visions he can't explain.

Terrified he may be going mad, he must keep the disturbing skill secret. But when it proves helpful in tracking his would-be killer, he has no choice but to embrace the newfound power. The retrocognition leads him to the house of a man recently deceased, where he encounters the clever and intriguing Miss Matilda Wren—who may be able to help him solve the many questions raised by the attack.

The death of Tilda's cousin has left her and her beloved grandmother in a precarious financial position when she discovers their investments have gone missing. Between the lost money and the mysterious Lord Ravenhurst's incessant queries, Tilda begins to wonder if her cousin may have been murdered. Desperate to determine what happened, she'll exhaust every possible line of inquiry to stave off destitution. For a price, Tilda agrees to work with the earl to uncover the truth, though she suspects he's hiding a dark secret.

As their investigation grows, so does the body count. Can they trust each other enough to expose the puppet master pulling the strings? Or will the villain's malevolent machinations end with more than a whisper of death?

When I fist picked this book I really was looking for a paranormal mystery with a touch of a slowburn romance. Instead I got a historical romance with a light mystery plot. This is not to say I didn't enjoy it, I found myself disappointed at first but both main characters soon won me over. Now did the conclusion of the crime make me get out of my seat? not really, are the characters fully fleshed out? Some characters. Did I enjoy reading it and already plan on buying the next book? YES.

The real strong point of this book is the interaction between the main characters. I found both to be really charming, but the FMC really was the standout. Her personality and feistiness was endearing and made you root for her when she was on the page. The weakest part for me was the antagonist and found they were one-dimensional and flat. Aside from the mystery, lets get to the romance (which lets be honest is the real pull here). It is a SLOWBURN, I want to emphasize this as some people maybe disappointed. For me I thought it was refreshing and made sense within this world (I am also a sucker for a slow burn so I might be biased). The flirtations are cute and really pushes you to buy the next book and see the relationship develop further.

Regarding narration the female voice actor was perfect and to me felt like she embodied the character perfectly. The male voice actor did a fine job but something about the audio quality of their mic felt off to me. Other than that no complaints.

A solid cozy read 3.5/5

Absolutely fantastic start to a new historical (romantic) mystery duo series.
Excellent blend of characters, without making the heroine (Miss Wren) sanctimoniously so-much-more-capable-than-any-man, and the hero (Raven) so insufferably weak.
This is definitely my favourite book by Darcy Burke to date.
I'm not typically a fan of dual narrators but this was done very well.

Looking forward to the next installment!
