Despite that i really liked it. I'm pretty invested in the story and want to see what happens even if I'm obviously not the typical age and gender demographic for who this book is written for. I sort of wish the whole series was offered as a bundle since these are pretty short, and i wasted my credit for the rest of the month for a five hour book...

Classic stories never die and this is both new and as old as imagination.

Alanna hides as a boy to follow her dream of being a knight, meeting a wide array of morality in other people along the way.

The descriptions and honesty of the journey - including beginning womanhood - are a delight.

I first read Alanna the FIrst Adventure at 12 years old, so a year older than Alanna is in the first book. This book inspired me and helped shape the woman I have become. I adore Tamora Pierce, and love how she tells stories.

A young Girls Hero

I loved this story as a young teen/preteen and have read the paperbacks over and over until the spines were failing. The audio version brings a classic favorite to life. Trini Alvarado does an amazing job voicing the characters. Now I'm listening to them with my kids and watching my daughter fall in love with my favorite stories and characters.

I am steadily making my way through the audio versions of Tamora Pierce's Tortall Universe books. I was super excited to get to Alanna's story. She has always been my favourite. This story has aged well and listening to it was like a warm blanket settling over me. The narration was good; my only peeve is that I wish the narrator would have done more accents for the characters. I've always had it in my mind that the character of George Cooper would have some kind of working man's accent, maybe English m, or irish in sound, for example and here he just sounds like he's from somewhere in the Midwest of the US. It doesnt quite match the way his dialouge is writing.Anyway, great book, good audio overall and looking forward to the next one.
