On 5th June 1984, the Indian army began its attack on the complex at Amritsar, which houses the two most sacred shrines. Generals who had pledged to use minimum force and on no account to violate the shrines were not prepared for the fierce and adept resistance they encountered. Having suffered severe casualties, the infantry were driven back, and as a last resort - with approval from Delhi - tanks were ordered in. The Akal Takht was virtually reduced to rubble. It is doubtful if Mrs Gandhi would have initiated Operation Blue Star had she known how bloody and devastating the consequences of that 24-hour conflict would be.

Warning for anyone interested in buying this book, ‘STAY AWAY’. The story is an important event in Indian history and has been well written. Bit the hard work of the authors is completely undone by the narrator.
There is no rhythm, the narrator pauses in places he shouldn’t. His pronouncing of any names is terrible and the way he narrates conversations is outright offensive. He puts in a mock and terrible Indian accent, the sort that has been flagged as offensive in ‘Simpson‘s’ cartoon. He doesn’t even do a half decent job of it!
Audible should take down this book on the grounds of it being offensive (due to narration) and refund all customers.
Undoubtedly my worst purchase ever from Audible!
