À propos de cet audio
A spell-binding mystery, packed with suspense....
During the investigation into the death of a woman on a Liverpool housing estate, DI Tara Grogan encounters Callum, a local recluse who claims to have information.
But he won't help her unless she, in turn, helps him find out the truth about the suspicious death of his wife and child.
Tara is ready to dismiss his outlandish theories and ravings, until she discovers that, like her, he was a student at Latimer College, Oxford. A place which she has very much buried in the past.
Desperate to move forward in her case and curiosity piqued, Tara accepts, but as she delves deeper into the man's past, it becomes obvious he hasn't been honest with her.
And when another death is linked to Callum, Tara is confronted by the danger that her own demons have led her to trust the wrong person again.

Likewise unfortunate, the author writes distinctly unlikable characters: His protagonist (Detective Inspector Tara Grogan) is combative, self-absorbed, and shallow. Her supposedly sympathetic college friends are interfering and overly opinionated. Even bereft witness/suspect 'Callum' - understandably completely fallen apart after the death of his wife & child - is annoyingly near-catatonic (despite being described as a genius bench scientist). The guy is hard to believe. I couldn't get invested in *any* of the dramatis personae.
Henrietta Meire is undeniably professional: reading with outstanding diction and a comfortable cadence & timbre - but her voice-acting betrays subpar male character interpretations and over-the-top performances of emotional dialogue. Altogether, Tantor Audio did well to cast Meire on this project.. but could have gotten equally effective results with a different narrator. This is a capable - yet unspectacular - presentation.
In toto, 'An Early Grave' is entertaining and worth your time if you can get it as a 'Plus' selection. Should Audible ask for a Credit, however, you should spend it elsewhere (unless you are dead-set enamored with McCracken's chief character).
Implausible.. But Enjoyable

I liked the story with this one, it was engaging and suspenseful! At times I found the narration not too easy to follow & some of the plot jumped around quite a bit with the different cases and timelines. And the inciting ending was so dissatisfying!! I wanted a different ending for Callum. Also not a fan of the pregnancy plot.
I’m conflicted

A gripping and unusual story and it was tremendously exciting and had me anxiously waiting for what happened next .
Loved the ending and unexpected surprise. I did not see this ending coming and it was shocking.
Loved the thrill, loved the story, great Author and it was just as beautiful narrated.
Great job with the narration. Took us on a journey that gripped our interest.
Thank you Audible Plus for including in my library.
