Histoire
It's the winter of 1967, and snow is on the ground in the colorful Irish village of Ballybucklebo, but the chilly weather can't stop love from warming hearts all over the county. Not just the love between a man and woman, as with young doctor Barry Laverty and his fiancée, Sue Nolan, who are making plans to start a new life together, but also the love of an ailing pensioner for a faithful dog that's gone missing, the love of the local gentry for the great estate they are on the verge of losing, or Dr. Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly's love for his longtime home and practice.

After less than a year, young Barry Laverty, M.B., is settling in to the village, with only a few months to go before he becomes a full partner in the practice. He's looking forward to becoming a fixture in the community, until an unexpected romantic reversal gives him second thoughts. Will he truly be happy tending to routine coughs and colds for the rest of his career? Is running a humble GP's shop all he wants out of life?

Histoire
Barry Laverty, M.B., is looking forward to his first Christmas in the cozy village of Ballybucklebo, at least until he learns that his sweetheart, Patricia, might not be coming home for the holidays. That unhappy prospect dampens his spirits somewhat, but Barry has little time to dwell on his romantic disappointments. Christmas may be drawing nigh, but there is little peace to be found on earth, especially for a young doctor plying his trade in the emerald hills and glens of rural Ireland.

Description
"The charm of Taylor's Irish Country tales is brought to life in John Keating's performance. His Irish lilt will transport listeners straight to Ballybucklebo...Keating's pacing and inflections are perfect as he gives a unique vocal personality to each character." - AudioFile Magazine on An Irish Country Love Story
The An Irish Country Practice is the 12th heartwarming installment in New York Times and Globe and Mail best-selling author Patrick Taylor's beloved Irish Country series.
Once, not too long ago, there was just a single Irish country doctor tending to the lively little village of Ballybucklebo: Doctor Fingal Flahertie O'Reilly. Now his thriving practice is growing by leaps and bounds.
Not only has O'Reilly taken a new trainee under his wing, Doctor Connor Nelson, he's also added a spirited Labrador puppy to his ever-expanding household at Number One Main Street. Meanwhile, his trusted partner, young Doctor Barry Laverty, finds himself wondering if he's truly ready to settle down and start a family with his lovely fiancée, Sue.
As the doctors cope with domestic and professional challenges, they also look after their patients and their ailments, including a mysterious cough, a housewife whose frequent "accidents" may have a disturbing cause, and a respected colleague who might be succumbing to an old vice.
All is not sickness and worry, however. There's plenty of joy and merriment to be found as well, from a visiting circus to racing to sailing...and maybe even a happy ending or two.
This touching audiobook is as warm and cozy as the lovable town in which it takes place.

Yet another great story by the wonderful writer Patrick Taylor and the outstanding narration of John Keating. I feel like I know the characters personally in this wee village and am always sad when yet another one ends. Don’t miss this country doctor series! Bravo.

Feel good.
Love the voice of the reader/narrator. I never fail to enjoy a Patrick Taylor yarn. The folks are mostly warm-hearted and gentle....even the “baddies” usually turn out to be quite interesting and most marvellous of all they usually change for the better. I miss everybody when the book ends as I feel it’s my family who has gone some place else. Thank you so much Patrick Taylor.

Delightful
Oh boy, another visit to Ballybucklebo in the 1960s. Fingal O’Reilly, M.D., and his partner, Barry Laverty, M.D., have a new trainee, Connor Nelson, M.D.
The book is well written and supplies a great view of a Northern Ireland Village. The story has humor, drama, and gossip as the daily life is told. I have enjoyed this series. I read the first few books, but then switched to the audiobook format. I much prefer this as John Keating is so good with all the various accents and, of course, the pronunciation of some Irish words. I am looking forward to the next book.
The book is thirteen hours thirty-five minutes. John Keating does an excellent job narrating the story. Keating is an actor, voice artist, and an Earphone Award winning audiobook narrator.

Not his best
I love this book series but I found this one very boring. It’s much better when there is a bigger problem than Fingle has to figure out. And I’d like to here more about poor Lars. I’m hoping the next one will be better.

New babies, new marriages, new pups, and just a few sad losses. Nothing in the least disappointing about Taylor's storytelling nor Keating's narrations. Glad there are still a few more books left in the series, but I will surely miss these. Maybe I'll read them next!

Wonderful.
This story is pure pleasure, gentle and funny and sometimes sad, but always kind at heart. The reading of it is delightful with the Irish brogue.
