A woman with mental health issues and her service dog take a corporate job in a small developing new colony on a frontier planet. Intrigue and weirdness ensues. She has to contend with strange misbehaving ecology, a fundamentalist religious group, shady corporate practices, and murder! So there is a lot going on. The main character is likeable and having her need a service dog created a unique feeling story dynamic. The plot and story start out pretty strong and remain compelling enough to hold attention. Some interesting stuff happens.
Without going into spoilers, it ends up being much more of a straightforward capitalism critique than was hoped for. The ending is also weird. No bad per say, but just one of those endings where you kind of have to interpret it a bit for yourself as to what you think happened. Getting there was enjoyable, it just leaves you off on an odd note. If you temper your expectations it's still worth a listen.
