Histoire
The Old Man and the Sea is one of Hemingway's most enduring works. Told in language of great simplicity and power, it is the story of an old Cuban fisherman, down on his luck, and his supreme ordeal, a relentless, agonizing battle with a giant marlin far out in the Gulf Stream. Here Hemingway recasts, in strikingly contemporary style, the classic theme of courage in the face of defeat, of personal triumph won from loss.

A vicious 15-year-old droog is the central character of this 1963 classic, a frightening fable about good and evil, and the meaning of human freedom. In Anthony Burgess' nightmare vision of the future, where the criminals take over after dark, the story is told by the central character, Alex, who talks in a brutal invented slang that brilliantly renders his and his friends' social pathology.

Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

Continuing where Thus Spoke Zarathustra left off, Nietzsche's controversial work Beyond Good and Evil is one of the most influential philosophical texts of the 19th century and one of the most controversial works of ideology ever written. Attacking the notion of morality as nothing more than institutionalised weakness, Nietzsche criticises past philosophers for their unquestioning acceptance of moral precepts. Nietzsche tried to formulate what he called "the philosophy of the future".

Description
Animal Farm is an allegorical novella by George Orwell, first published in the UK in 1945. It is the tale of farm animals that rebel against the farmer, intending to establish a society where the animals can be equal, free, and happy. With stirring slogans, they set out to create utopia. However, the rebellion is betrayed and the farm ends up in a state worse than it was before, under the dictatorship of a pig named Napoleon.
This is the setting for one of the most revealing satiric fables of all time - an acerbic tale for adults that records the process from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism which is even worse. When Animal Farm was first published, Stalinist Russia was its target. Today it is quite clear that wherever and whenever freedom is suppressed, the message of George Orwell’s masterpiece is still relevant. Time Magazine chose the book as one of the 100 best English-language novels from 1923 to 2005. It also features at number 31 on the Modern Library List of Best 20th-Century Novels.

Outstanding Allegory - Poor Performance
This is an interesting story about a working farm that rebels from control by humans and deteriorates into infighting, hypocrisy, authoritarianism, and violence. Orwell uses a story about an English farm as a model for this brilliant treatment of his interpretation of what happened after the Russian Revolution - complete with characters representing Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin. The writing is brilliant and the imagery startling. The narrative is engrossing and thought-provoking. Adriel Brandt has a monotonous style of reading, unfortunately. He relates the story clearly - good enunciation - but the performance has little else going for it. It's disappointing to hear this fascinating satire delivered with zero emotion.
Despite a poor performance, this recording of a rightfully celebrated allegorical tale is worth 8 out of 10 stars.

Not the best, but good read
The book feels like it's the summary for another book. the story is good, it could have had more drama and events to it. but it doesn't. it is laid out as one simple sentence after another: X did that. Y did this. Z said that. etc... so it doesn't conduct feelings to the reader (listener). this did not help the narrator at all. so he sounded most of the time like a text to speech programs, monotonic, doesn't grab your attention.
So may be it will be a lot better as an actual read, not as audio.

Grim
Grim story of corruption, deceit and a dystopian rewriting of history.
That said the story itself was simple and full of gullible characters, the only sad thing is you have to wonder if humanity today is any more intelligent or better at remembering history than the horses.

Very Relatable
I lived in Iraq during the socialist party & Saddam Hussein's era before 2003. It is really interesting how a revolution aiming to free a country from a slavery under an occupation only to be replaced by another form of slavery that's dictatorship. In the early 20th century, Iraq was under the Ottoman Empire control followed by the British occupation. People wanted independence & managed to achieve it. However, Iraq became free only to have the socialist party to take control. During their rule, we were always reminded that we are free & enjoying more prosperity than we were under any foreign occupation. People affiliated to the socialist party were treated as first class citizens & had all the privileges. After the war in 2003, Iraq experienced another big shift. Yet the newer islamic parties that took control used the same tactics of control over the people & always reminding us that we are better now than we were under the socialists. 100-200 years of conflict & systems overthrowing previous ones only to adopt their ideologies. The dictators' valuable weapon is ignorance & feeding into the fear of the inevitable chaos if they weren't in power. What makes a difference in breaking the cycle is to invest in education. Education really changes the world.
