À propos de cet audio

The definitive edition.

Discovered in the attic in which she spent the last years of her life, Anne Frank’s remarkable diary has since become a world classic - a powerful reminder of the horrors of war and an eloquent testament to the human spirit.

In 1942, with Nazis occupying Holland, a 13-year-old Jewish girl and her family fled their home in Amsterdam and went into hiding. For the next two years, until their whereabouts were betrayed to the Gestapo, they and another family lived cloistered in the “Secret Annex” of an old office building. Cut off from the outside world, they faced hunger, boredom, the constant cruelties of living in confined quarters, and the ever-present threat of discovery and death. In her diary Anne Frank recorded vivid impressions of her experiences during this period. By turns thoughtful, moving, and amusing, her account offers a fascinating commentary on human courage and frailty and a compelling self-portrait of a sensitive and spirited young woman whose promise was tragically cut short.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"The new edition reveals a new depth to Anne's dreams, irritations, hardship, and passions....There may be no better way to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II than to reread

The Diary of a Young Girl, a testament to an indestructive nobility of spirit in the face of pure evil." (Chicago Tribune)

“The single most compelling personal account of the Holocaust...remains astonishing and excruciating.” (The New York Times Book Review)

Amazing stuff

When I read the original I frequently forgot that this was a young teenage girl. Her vocabulary is very good so it's easy to start thinking of an adult. Selma Blair did such a great job at keeping the fact that Anne was only 14 - 15 years old front and foremost in my mind. I actually think I enjoyed this more than reading the original.

Very well done!

I still feel overwhelmed with sadness from listening to The Diary of a Young Girl and walking through Anne Frank's house in Amsterdam last week.

So thankful to all who helped to end the horrific Holocaust and to Anne Frank for sharing her heart and experience with the world. The Diary of a Young Girl is one of the most widely read books in the world * #neveragain

"What is done cannot be undone, but one can prevent it happening again." Anne Frank

Heartbreaking story

such an intelligent young lady and so well spoken. heartbreaking to know what happened and what her and her loved ones along with millions of others suffered through.
only critique I have is i wish the narrator had an authentic accent or spoke the language fluefluently. I found the German pronunciations kind of awkward to listen to and I would have connected more to her if there was an accent as if Anne was reading it.

Endlessly Fascinating and Gutwrenching

This is so well written, I kept forgetting she was only a teenager.
Selma Blair did a wonderful job bringing Anne’s story to love, I HIGHLY recommend this book.
Never forget.

So well written that you forget that it is real life. I understand now why this is not only one of the best books ever written but also one of the most important.

Incredible and Moving

Wow I knew what was gonna happen, but I never thought I'd be teary eyed when the reader said that was the end of her diary. And continued to narrate the "Afterword". 🥲

I loved her courage, and her view against laziness and taking the "easy" way of life.

Wow

I rather liked the fact that producers included a summary of outcomes at the end. They got into who got transferred where and when between one death camp and another. Fascinating.

I went to Amsterdam over the summer and obviously, I had to check out the Anne Frank Museum (which was incredible btw). I remember reading this book back in high school but I don't remember a thing. Selma is brilliant in this audible! She is so animated and made this audible so enjoyable.

Highly Recommended
