Histoire
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Description
With all of the pluck and charm of its eponymous young hero, Rachel McAdams (The Notebook, Spotlight, Midnight in Paris) delivers a spectacular reading of Montgomery's beloved bildungsroman. In moments both funny and bittersweet, McAdams' voice is imbued with the spark that has made Anne a much-loved symbol of individualism and cheer for over a century. In this story of "kindred spirits", McAdams' touching and heartfelt narration proves she is just that - bonded on a deep level to this shimmering classic.
When aging brother and sister Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert decide to adopt an orphan boy to help with chores around their farm, Green Gables on Prince Edward Island, neither is prepared for the feisty and imaginative redheaded girl who is mistakenly brought to them instead. Nor are they prepared for the way in which she will change their lives. Through a series of hilarious misadventures, Anne's uncompromising spirit makes her a striking presence in the close-knit village, bringing new friendships, first crushes, and, for her foster parents, a love and openness unimaginable before her arrival.

I finally know what all the fuss is about!
I was born and raised on Prince Edward Island. I vaguely remember flipping through this book at the age of nine. I had already seen the movies and the stage musical more than once. I have always enjoyed the story, but I never really grasped why it was considered such a classic. You see, Anne is kind of shoved down our throats here on PEI. There is Avonlea Village, a water park called Shining Waters, Anne food, Anne drink, Anne merchandise. People travel here from all over the world to experience it.
I bought this audiobook on a whim and I am so glad I did. I was completely charmed by it. The story is written so simply, yet so gloriously! Lucy Maud Montgomery had me laughing and crying. I feel foolish saying it, but several times my heart swelled. Rachel McAdams did a beautiful job. Her long dialogues as Anne were at times dizzying! She read with real passion and love.
I am so glad I got to experience Anne again. Now I can take in this tourist season and know what all the fuss is about.

Rachel McAdams is incredible!!
Rachel McAdams is a brilliant performer!!! I hope she does more books. Sadly, this is the only book on audible she has done. Anne of Green Gables is fabulous but her performance made it even more captivating! Fingers crossed audible and Rachel McAdams team up to continue the series! I could listen to her for days! If I could I would give the performance a 6/5

RACHEL MCADAMS IS A SNORE
I've been reading this book and series since I was 7 years old. I've seen all the movies and shows and heard all the audio books. This is by far the worst narration I've ever heard. Lifeless and dull. McAdams doesn't even try to change the tone of her voice for different characters or even for variety of emotions. It's just blah.

Amazing audiobook for a Canadian classic
I have to admit, I was skeptical of Rachel McAdams when I started this book. I found it a bit difficult to get past envisioning some of her characters she plays on screen when she was reading. But once I got past that, she was fantastic. This was my first experience of the book and I can proudly say it started me on the journey down the series.

I had started listening to this story for the sole purpose of nostalgia, but it didn’t take long for me to be swept away just like I had been when I was a little girl! Rachel McAdams does a fabulous job of capturing the whimsical voice of Anne Shirley, and I am SO HAPPY I purchased this book!

The story was great, McAdams not so much
I never actually read this book before but grew up on the movies and knew I would love it. The story is wonderful but I was very disappointed by Rachel McAdams' performance.
Firstly, I listen to audio books because I want to feel like I'm being told a story by a close friend, rather than simply being read to by a stranger. I didn't feel like she was very interested in the story she was telling.
Anne's was really the only voice that McAdams put any character into. Marilla didn't have enough bite in her character, McAdams barely changed her voice at all. Why choose a well known actor to play multiple characters of she's only capable of one or two voices?
I noticed multiple times when she would transition characters without changing the voice of the previous character and realize halfway through her sentence and change her tone. She often read parts like "she said" or "she replied" as if it were part of the speech of the character.
Her voice has a nice sound, if she had put more effort into it, it could've been great.

Amazing. Listen to this book.
I am sitting on a bench outside my son's school, having just finished listening to Anne of Green Gables, and I am actually crying. The story was lovely, made even lovelier by Rachel McAdams' narration. If she doesn't do the next book in the series, I don't know what I will do with my life.

Unfortunate.
Rachel McAdams has a nice voice, but her narration here is too fast and awkward. In dialogue she uses too much inflection and in scene she is monotone. I loved the story but not the reader.

YOU CAN'T HELP BUT LOVE ANNE
It took me a little while to warm up to the chattiness of Anne but once I got used to it, I became charmed by her incessant optimism and love for life.
The poor little orphan girl blossoms in this classic tale and warms everyone's heart in the process. You either go along for the ride or resign yourself to being a grumpy curmudgeon. I preferred to go along for the ride and I was very happy I did.
Rachel McAdams does a nice job reading this novel, even if sometimes her reading feels a little flat. She tones down the annoying parts of Anne's personality, which is good, but it's sometimes hard to distinguish the different characters. Overall, the narration is pleasant and easy to understand.

Good story, poor reading
I really enjoyed the story, but had to struggle through the narration. The phrasing was almost incomprehensible at times, and I had to think through what meant. Also, more vocal animation and inflection would have made it better.
