When Gemma’s romantic holiday with her boyfriend is cancelled, the tearoom sleuth finds herself heading to Vienna instead with her cat Muesli and the nosy Old Biddies for company. And it’s not long before they stumble across a murder right in the heart of Austria’s historic capital.

A handsome art critic dies suspiciously at their hotel, and the Old Biddies are determined to sniff out the killer. Is it the bitter hotel owner nursing a grudge? The critic’s jealous mistress wanting revenge? Or even the American horse trainer who seems inexplicably nervous around the police?

Soon Gemma is dragged into an impromptu investigation which has her tackling Vienna’s famous pastries, snooping in police files and even braving a nude sauna in search of clues!

But can she sort the suspects from the Schnitzel and solve the mystery before the killer strikes again?

Well I enjoy these sometimes I have to wonder about the main character she’s very rude to the four older women and I find it very disrespectful that they’re called the old Bitties she constantly lies and her secrets from somebody she claims to love treats her parents horribly and for somebody who wanted so desperately to open a tea room doesn’t seem to spend a whole Lotta time there and she doesn’t really seem that bright clues that are very obvious seem to be totally oblivious to her not just in this book but in all of them. She gives everybody else grief for doing their own investigations and not trusting the police and then she does the exact opposite of what she tells everybody else to do so she’s kind of a bit of a hypocrite

I have so far quite enjoyed the tearoom mysteries, but this one was a disappointment, The story takes place in Vienna while Gemma is on vacation, which throws some variety, but it also means most of the supporting characters are missing. The murders are getting a bit formulaic, and I'm really tired of the racist portrayals of Chinese characters. English is not the first language of any of the Austrian people, yet they have perfect, accented english and the text describes this several times. Yet the chinese family is painted with stereotypes about controlling parents and broken english.
