College student Diana Carter returns to the family ranch in Wyoming, now secure in her role as Diana of The Wind Rivers. She knows that, as a child of the prophecy, she is destined to work with the Greek gods and goddesses to save pure water on the planet. Poseidon sends a pair of flying horses, while Persephone gives birth to twins, Kya and Spruce.
As Diana begins to discover her full powers, Kya and Spruce grow into their own. Indigo, a Mountain Bluebird, struggles to help while at the same time raising hatchlings with her mate.
The companions travel to Pando, one of the oldest living organisms on the planet; they search for an indigenous ancestor on Squaretop Mountain; and seek the secrets of the elk in Wyoming's high-altitude Red Desert.
