New to my top 10 list of Killer Entrepreneurs

Didn't know Gary, never heard of him until my local news channel wished him a happy 44th birthday last month. His life sounded very intriguing and I had to check him out. I am thankful for the introduction to his books. I am very impressed with his delivery and honesty. He says it like it is. The #askgaryvee audio book was inspiring. Lots of content. Just starting his book Crushing it. Check out some of his YouTube keynotes. Pretty cool stuff.

Insightful yet immodest, energetic yet egotistical

My first time listening to Gary Meee (my nickname for the egotistical Gary Vee) was in Crushing It and it was absolutely phenomenal because of one reason and one reason only: you get to hear less of Gary Meee and more of other people narrating their business success stories.

Don't get me wrong, Gary is a smart, sharp and successful entrepreneur but he it seems that he's normalizing boastful behavior and a nasty nasty case of narcissism.

The guy admittedly said that on his birthday, he requested a video from his friends and colleagues on why they think he's great. And people actually responded! If I was a true friend of his, I'd share one word of advice with him: get real Gary! Anyway, he absurdly said: "that was the best movie he ever saw" (or something along the lines) because "people were sharing thoughts on why they thought Gary Meee was the best!" Where is your dignity?

He's so full of contradictions by claiming to be modest but then admitting to love hearing people's praise of him. In case you haven't noticed Gary Meee, there were far better historical figures that accomplished far greater things than you (beside amplifying their Dad's already successful wine business and then building a career out of boasting about their massive multi-million dollar successes) that were authentically humble and never dared to hunt for people's praise of them to feed their egos. I mean, the guy tried to play the "At least I'm honest about it" card way too many times about his obvious self-inflicted egomaniacal and narcissistic nature.

Yes he's insightful. Ye he's successful. Yes he knows social media, yes he turned his dad's successful business into a multi-million wine empire but the also turned me off with his exccesively boastful behavior and overuse of the words "I", "Me", "I", "Me" and you know the rest of the story.

While it's obvious that more successful businessmen like Zuck and Bezos seem to be more modest than Gary Meee, in actuality they're all egomaniacs, and the only difference is that Zuck and Bezos know how to hide it well, while Gary Meee just doesn't give a $&$@ and proudly showcases it with no remorse. Unbelievable times we live in fellas. He makes Trump look like Ghandi if you ask me.

Anyway, not trying to say that the book wasn't useful, it was! He's in-tune with market trends and knows the ins and outs of social media and entrepreneurship but if he spent the countless hours of bragging about his accomplishments on other useful things that actually help people, he could've been a billionaire by now and would've already achieved his long life dream of owning the terrible jets (been a Steelers fan since 1996).

The most useful insights gained from this book were how you shouldn't act and what you shouldn't say once you become a multi-millionaire. Period!

He still gets 3 stars for the many valuable tips he shares within half of the book but it was like pulling teeth to hear him talk about how great he thinks he is during the other half.

In summary, he's only the tip of the iceberg of many other "I'm all that and a bag of chips and the dip " personalities who are normalizing egomaniacal and narcissistic behavior.

Excellent!

This is a great audiobook. It's good to hear advice from a person who is actually successful at running businesses instead of a "motivational coach" who is making money only from speaking about success without any real experience. #Audible1

Everything you could ever want and more

Gary does a great job at laying out the groundwork for the modern entrepreneur to be in the right mindset to be successful. Even as someone who is not actively pursuing entrepreneurship, the ways that Gary focuses on the importance of mentality and the hustle are great guiding pillars for living a life you will be happy with. #Audible1

Master of his field it's a pleasure to hear some good sense with practical data on Snapchat Instagram and all (Which I never even looked before)...

Ok I may not come to your funeral just yet but I'd love to meet you and may change my mind about this too of course ;)

Wish you even more success for the future!

Did any of the 1 stars actually listen to the book?!?

Audible member since the beginning, pre-Amazon, pre-iPod. #blueplayer

If there's one thing I can't stand in audio books, it's when the narrator is 'literally' reading-from-the-book...yes, I know that's what we're buying, but I want more, I want personality, isn't that why we look for 'read by the author'!

So much whining and complaining, "all he did was answer questions", are you kidding, forget listening to the book, did you even read the title?! This was a great book, TON of content, right blend of anecdotes, minus the obligatory rehashing of the half dozen or so ideas that most authors use to justify wasting 3 to 5 hours of air space in my car. Could've been a blog post and called it a day.

Gary gives relevant, updated answers (from the original book and show). With a world polluted with Internet gurus and social media experts that are trying to push the same tired lines and tactics, Gary is the REAL deal...and the fact that he brought on Leo Laporte (ZD/TechTV) to read questions brought this book full circle!! Loved every minute, smiled the whole time, can't wait for the next one! #questionofthedayanswered

A Compilation of Rants and Not Really a Book

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

The only reason I read books is to get long form content not available online for free. This book is a list of Question and answers from his show all compiled in a book and NOT really a book. Each answer is just a rant and nothing is in-depth. What is the point of a book if its not indepth. I literally mean 1 word answers.

The author himself mentions that he has never read a book in his life and does not read. Yet he decides to write a book. Interesting.

I get it he is great at snapchat etc but a book is not supposed to be the same format as a snapchat feed. He probably got inspired by Kim Kardashian's selfie book.

Its a waste of time and money.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Something new and more in-depth than a guy ranting on different topics for 2minutes each. I dont read books for 1 word answers.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?

The entire idea was flawed, its not even a book. Its a chain of rants.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from #AskGaryVee?

Instead of doing 100's of questions it would have been better to do pick 12 topics and gone indepth on those. Zero to One was a book of rants as well but atleast it was indepth rants that made you think unlike this book which did nothing.

Any additional comments?

Please Please Please read some books to understand what books mean.

A little narcissistic

More about Gary and little about tips. I guess he is not my style. I understand he is successful but I don't feel I could ever have a one on one conversation with him.

I never thought I would write a bad review for anyone.

It is simply my opinion that Gary's ego is bigger than the value I found in this book. Many may find value and enjoy this audio book if they are fans of Gary. In fairness this is my first full exposure to him and I will most likely not be a fan. I simply did not even want to finish it in fact I did not finish it. I do not have to agree with someone to find value in their words and he does have some good content but if I could get my money back I would.

Whats with the great reviews?!?

Would you try another book from Gary Vaynerchuk and/or the narrators?

Absolutely not.

Would you ever listen to anything by Gary Vaynerchuk again?

Absolutely not.

How could the performance have been better?

It was destined to be terrible

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Annoyance and disappointment

Any additional comments?

What do people know that I do not? I purchased this book strictly because of the raving reviews for this book and boy WAS I DISAPPOINTED. This book is nothing more than 1 giant EGO BOOST to the author. This guy seriously believes he is the greatest thing since sliced bread and is definitely not afraid to show it. This author is egotistical almost to the point of offensiveness. Maybe this book is designed for people who have little to no business acumen but as a seasoned and successful entrepreneur I have nothing good to say about this book or author. I am always looking to increase my knowledge and work on personal development but I found neither possible while listening to how awesome Gary Vaynerchuk is. I have no doubts he is successful in business but can anybody stand him long enough to be with him for extended periods of time? Sorry Gary, maybe its time you learned a lesson in becoming and/or staying humble.

Don't read your own book, offer something new

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I have been trying to suffer through this book, I just cant take it any longer. Haven't heard anything new or worthwhile. Who is this guy? Another mid level youtube star??? Who cares? Who is this book for? People who know nothing at all about startups or have never heard the word startup? As an entrepreneur making a decent living in LA, I was looking for something to add to my knowledge. Not only is there nothing worth listening to here, the author says in absolute terms to avoid certain things he has never tried. A number of these things have helped me succeed. If I practiced that this book teaches, I would not have a business. I wish I could forget everything I just heard from this this youtube star.

Would you be willing to try another one of the narrators’s performances?

No, never, spare me.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

Not one, just the "return this book" feature. Thank you audible

Low quality rant targeted at teens

Would you try another book from Gary Vaynerchuk and/or the narrators?

Definitely, no! The self-taught author who takes pride in being uneducated and the fact that he does not read, saying he read more books than he wrote (fewer than five), is a terrible writer. The author explicitly confirms that he does not read any other authorities claiming that he learns everything he needs from his social followers. Combine these two facts and try to find any value his writing may bring you.
