Also venturing north is said to be a mighty champion, a man who once fought for the Malazans, the bearer of a sword that slays gods: Whiteblade.

It felt like a game scenario, not unusual in stories originating from games. The enchanted weapons, the intractable foes, and the fact that some characters seem to keep coming back, all point to it.
