Patrice Grimball, a librarian specialist from Charleston, SC, was led to start “SC BookGal & Friends” primarily by her passion for African American literature and her professional experience in the library system.Key factors that motivated her include:

A Love for Diverse Literature: Grimball noted that her “love for African American books sets [her] apart” and that she is “not being afraid to speak about my love for them”. This passion drives her mission to highlight underrepresented voices.
Professional Experience: Working for the Charleston County Library System for over 18 years, particularly in Adult Services, gave her deep insight into community reading habits and literary needs.
The Need for a Platform: Recognizing a gap in the availability or promotion of independent and diverse authors, she created the podcast to provide a dedicated space for interviews, reviews, and resources for these writers.

Ultimately, “SC BookGal & Friends” is an extension of her work as a literary advocate, using media to connect authors with a wider audience and engage the community in the literary world.
