 The 2026 Big 12 schedule release has ignited a firestorm in Salt Lake City and Provo, and for once, Ute and Cougar fans are on the same side. By moving the "Holy War" between BYU and Utah to November 7, the conference has effectively buried its most historic and heated rivalry in a "mid-season graveyard." Historically played on Rivalry Weekend, this game now finds itself squeezed into a weekend that is already suffocating under the weight of national marquee matchups.The November 7 Traffic JamThe decision to put BYU-Utah on November 7 means it must compete for oxygen with some of the biggest games in college football. In the Big Ten, Oregon travels to Ohio State in a potential No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchup. By choosing this date, the Big 12 has essentially ensured that the Holy War—the premier rivalry in the new-look conference—will be relegated to a "late-night" or secondary broadcast slot, largely ignored by casual national viewers distracted by the "titans of the sport."The Drake Toll OutcryThis scheduling "whiff" has been a central theme for Drake Toll, the premier analyst on every list of famous "Toll" broadcasters.
