Description

We've been thinking about sex all wrong. Mainstream media, movies, and porn have taught us that sex = penis + vagina, and everything else is just secondary. Standard penetration is how men most reliably achieve orgasm. The problem is, women don't orgasm this way. We've separated our most reliable route to orgasm - clitoral stimulation - from how we feel we should orgasm - penetration. As a result we've created a pleasure gap between women and men:

  • 50 percent of 18- to 35-year-old women say they have trouble reaching orgasm with a partner
  • 64 percent of women versus 91 percent of men said they had an orgasm at their last sexual encounter
  • 55 percent of men versus 4 percent of women say they usually reach orgasm during first-time hookup sex

In Becoming Cliterate, psychology professor and human sexuality expert Dr. Laurie Mintz exposes the broader cultural problem that's perpetuating this gap and what we can do about it. Pulling together evidence from biology, sociology, linguistics, and sex therapy into one comprehensive, accessible, and prescriptive book, Becoming Cliterate features:

  • Cultural and historical analysis of female orgasm (spoiler: the problem's been going on for ages)
  • An anatomy section (it's all custom under the hood)
  • Proven techniques for cliterate sex (it starts with training the sex organ between your ears)
  • A comprehensive final chapter for men (because you don't have to have a clitoris to be cliterate)

By dispelling the lies, misunderstandings, and myths that have been holding us back, Becoming Cliterate tackles both personal and political problems and replaces them with updated outlooks and practical skills needed to change our collective perspective on sex. It's time to finally inform women and men on how to have satisfying experiences in bed that benefit both parties.

The revolution is cuming - and Becoming Cliterate offers a radical, simple solution to progress and pleasure for all.

Ce que les critiques en disent

"An excellent, thorough, inspiring and much needed guide to the source of our deepest energy, pleasure, and power - the clitoris. Everyone needs to read this book and become CLITERATE." (Eve Ensler, author of The Vagina Monologues and In the Body of the World

"This read doesn't just zero in on the politics of pleasure inequality, it also offers up solutions that help the reader become more hands on (literally) with their own sexuality." (Bust Magazine)

"Applicable and attainable lessons punctuated with [Mintz's] characteristic humor...and impudent endorsement of pleasure-seeking as our prerogative.... Unabashedly and refreshingly sex-positive" (Psychology of Women Quarterly

you're ok, I'm ok, we're all ok but...

As a husband looking to learn and provide a better experience for my wife I found little here that I did not already know. I found the tone of the narrator a bit condescending and blameful of men for women not getting what the don't even know they want from body parts they can't even identify. orgasm equality, clitoral stimulation, orgasm equality, clitoral stimulation, orgasm equality, ok I get it already...

Repetitive. Little actionable insights for men

Important message & insightful, but primarily written for women. Text is quite repetitive as well. Would not recommend full text

Guy review: it's good

This is a very good book about female orgasms. The author explains everything very clearly. I like that she gives concrete examples and pragmatic ways to get the big O. She also even talks about toys and masturbation. This book should be required reading as a teen.

The only star I took was because it gets repetitive. There is a chapter for men at the end that is the whole book in an hour.

The performance of the narrator was very good.

Good Information, too stretched out.

This book should have been 3 hours long. The content was often repetitive and stretched out, however it was good information. I would still recommend it to any woman. Discussions about sex are unnecessarily taboo and this book does a good job at addressing several points around sex and orgasms for women.

Helpful advice for cisgender women and their partners

The author often refers to the readers as women, but I’m guessing her tips wouldn’t be useful for transgender women who don’t have female anatomy. While I wish she’d be more inclusive, the title of the book should clue you in on the target audience. It is important to note that the author doesn’t provide a quick fix for everyone. For example, purity culture and self confidence issues can be a major barrier. She gives advice on addressing these, but many people will keep fighting these issues for the rest of their lives. That being said, she provides lots of tips for reaching satisfaction, and she doesn’t judge well meaning partners who aren’t informed on the female anatomy.

Educational, entertaining, and thought provoking

Loved this book. So much so, that I have it in hard copy and via audible. The candor makes the entire topic more entertaining, conversational, and enjoyable. I highly suggest.

Helpful

There was a lot of great information to help clear up misunderstandings. I especially enjoyed the communication chapter in the book. This book may help couples having sexuality challenges.

Finally!

This book provides a wonderful educational for women and men! Finally someone explains the truth about female sexual satisfaction, and that there is nothing wrong with them! Porn and Hollywood and romance novels portray female climax as accurately as a women giving childbirth: too quick to realistically get the job done!
