Description

Some men are just better when they're bold.

Welcome to the Point...

In a dark and broken kingdom, a ruler has to be fearless to control the streets and the ruthless people who run them.

Race Hartman is just bold enough, just smart enough, and just lost enough to wear the crown. Places like the Point will always have bad things and bad people, but the man in control of all that badness can minimize the devastation. Race has a plan, but can he prevent total annihilation without destroying himself? Brysen Carter has always seen her best friend's brother for what he is too pretty, too smooth, and way too dangerous to touch. Basking in Race's golden glow is very tempting, but Brysen knows she'd eventually get burned.

When she starts receiving threatening texts and someone tries to take her out in the parking lot, the only person interested in keeping her safe is the one man she can't allow herself to have.

Sometimes being bold is the only way to stay alive. But can she let Race save her life... if it means losing herself to him?

Riveting series!

Jay Crownover is one of my favorite authors and it's because of her gift in describing the weight of decisions people make and the reasons they make them. In this 2nd installment, we learn about Race Hartman and Bryson Carter's romance. Race is interesting because he's the guy with the golden looks, intelligence and strong survival skills. I mean this guy can get himself out of any precarious situation with his quick wit, ability to reason & develop solutions on the spot, all while taming the flames of the danger around him. Bryson is a responsible big sister who is a college student, and she's actually Dovie's best friend. I liked that Bryson was responsible, stylish and sassy. More than anything, I liked how she was a hard worker, and that she also had a survival instinct that made her pairing with Race so understandable.

What I liked most about this novel was the constant flow of action. I mean the stark contrast between the two ways of living in both The Point and The Hill was so interesting! Crownover almost describes The Point, as a living, mythical creature that is out to destroy the will and life of it's inhabitants, and everyone deals with the challenges of living in "the Point" differently. Race seems to almost want to outsmart and balance the rough energy that is this beast called "The Point." That was a unique trait to possess, and I really liked Race for that, because it made him an optimist, in my view. The love scenes were okay, but nothing too overly tender or heart-warming. Both Race and Bryson did have good chemistry, but overall the focus is on surviving the many hurdles that came their way.

Regarding all of the surrounding characters, I loved getting a bit of some DOVIE/JAX time in! I love Dovie and Jax together and I was happy to see that they were continuing to do well together. However, I was seriously disturbed with the female lead for the 3rd installment. She is a skank and a bitch, mainly because she's responsible for the scar on Dovie's chest since she betrayed her in the previous book. Also, I freaken love Titus, and I hate the idea of him being paired with his brother's ex-lover. UGH!!! Some villains are not meant to be rehabilitated when they've caused so much damage!!!! And, believe me, this next female lead has caused enough pain for Dovie....why is she going to be with Titus, who deserves A LOT better than his brother's sloppy seconds????? UGH, I'm really pissed about that.....

Also, let me say Bryson is described as beautiful and so is the female lead for the next book (can't remember her name off hand), but Dovie is still described as somewhat frumpy. PLEASE CROWNOVER CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE DOVIE A MAKEOVER?????? PLEASE! The girl has been through so much, and she deserves to look just as hot as the other female leads.....just saying....

Narrators: Jameson Adams and Olivia Song did great. Overall, I really enjoyed this audiobook!

Not one of my Favorites...

Didn't hold my interest like the other books could, being somewhat predictable, plus I couldn't relate to the couples 'love-connection', mainly d/t the Narrators -both Male & Female. Regardless, I'll never regret choosing a Jay Crownover Book

Don't give up on this author 🤔

This book had the opportunity to be better... I was disappointed by this author.. She usually writes amazing stories. I don't know what happened with this one however... I didn't like how wordy she was. I kept asking myself.... When is this one going to be over😫. Would not recommend this story. Boring!!!! With that being said I feel like this author is very worthy and I can't wait to see what she writes next. I'm interested in Titus' story!!

Nothing like the first one.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Only because you need to follow the storyline for the next book.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bax/Shane as a carry over from the first "Point" book.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It seemed linear, like reading a book report for English lit class. Important moments were not given special attention so the book seemed marginal. It was like white noise.

Was Better When He's Bold worth the listening time?

It's worth listening time but be sure to focus more than usual so you don't miss anything

Any additional comments?

This is a good story with a lot of potential but the narration was emotionless. I plan to read Titus's story hopefully with the narrorator from Bax's story.

So so

While I like the story, and the characters, I have to admit the narration bothered the heck out of me. The girls voice was awful, especially when she tried to sound like Race. The guy wasn't too bad but it still took away from the story. I love Jay and her marked series, but the Point series just isn't my favourite. I won't be moving on with the third instalment.

Bad, Bold and oh so Good.

Crownover builds on the world in Point, moving on to another character mixed up in this seedy and dark place. From the intensity of their world to the angst between the characters, this book takes readers into a world where it just might be good to be bad, and even better to be bold. The narrator gives a spot-on performance, conveying the emotion and the danger. I'm so glad I listened to this on audio because I didn't want to stop once I started. Instead, I popped in my ear buds and listened non-stop.

I REVIEW for the Guilty Indulgence Review Site.

Quite the page-turner

Never to disappoint, Jay Crownover writes suspense and romance together with an effortless blend. It's never a dull moment in The Point, but this plot will keep you turning the pages just to figure out what's going to happen next or whodunit.

I love when Olivia Song is narrating a portion of the story. Both narrators did an excellent job at bringing the characters to life.

Better when bold

What did you love best about Better When He's Bold?

Story line

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

The 2 people who read did not fit in my opinion. All other books from Jay, the voices fit. Race sounded gay and Bryson was sort of blahzay

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not possible listen while commuting
