Description

From Ben Mezrich, the New York Times best-selling author of The Accidental Billionaires and Bringing Down the House, comes Bitcoin Billionaires - the fascinating story of brothers Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss' big bet on cryptocurrency and its dazzling pay-off.

Ben Mezrich's 2009 best seller, The Accidental Billionaires, is the definitive account of Facebook's founding and the basis for the Academy Award-winning film The Social Network. Two of the story's iconic characters are Harvard students Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss: identical twins, Olympic rowers, and foils to Mark Zuckerberg. Bitcoin Billionaires is the story of the brothers’ redemption and revenge in the wake of their epic legal battle with Facebook.

Planning to start careers as venture capitalists, the brothers quickly discover that no one will take their money after their fight with Zuckerberg. While nursing their wounds in Ibiza, they accidentally run into an eccentric character who tells them about a brand-new idea: cryptocurrency. Immersing themselves in what is then an obscure and sometimes sinister world, they begin to realize “crypto” is, in their own words, "either the next big thing or total bulls--t." There’s nothing left to do but make a bet.

From the Silk Road to the halls of the Securities and Exchange Commission, Bitcoin Billionaires will take us on a wild and surprising ride while illuminating a tantalizing economic future. On November 26, 2017, the Winklevoss brothers became the first bitcoin billionaires. Here’s the story of how they got there - as only Ben Mezrich could tell it.

Entertaining but...

It was a good book, and very interesting to hear the Winklevoss's history with Bitcoin and the early days. I think my only criticism is that at some points, I almost felt like Mezrich might have been contracted and paid by the Winklevoss family to write a story about them and in a very positive light versus an actual documentation about how things went down.

Geniuses Cannot Be Held Back.

This is the story of those Twins from "The Social Network" They really struck it big with Bitcoin. A bounce back story for sure. Working with other entrepreneurs, these guys became very wealthy. Bitcoin & Digital Currency is the Future. This audiobook reads like a film & should be made into a feature film at some point soon. Very well written & told.

No story arc

I absolutely love all of Ben Mezrich’s books. They all read like movies and have great characters. While I like this book also, it really has no story arc. Not very much happens. It feels like it needs a second and third act.

Misleading Title - Mostly "Winkelvi Memoirs"

Do not buy this if you expect to learn more about Bitcoin or its origin story. The first five hours are almost exclusively focused on the Winkelvoss twins, their family and a corrective account of the Facebook saga. This is very unfortunate, as the author is actually a really good writer.

Interesting read, albeit biased

The extreme bias towards the twins was very apparent and hurts the validity of the story.

Meh

This seemed like an attempt portray the Winklevoss brothers as interesting, sympathetic protagonists but unfortunately it fell flat. The writing was good, but ultimately the story just isn't that interesting. Basic synopsis: rich guys use some of the money they had from suing Mark Zuckerberg to invest in Bitcoin, now their investment is worth over a billion dollars. Along the way they partner with someone they ultimately end up suing as well... Additionally, there are seemingly endless cringe worthy references to "The Movie"...(eye roll)

Great book on bitcoin and what it takes

It takes a lot of risk to get a lot of reward, this book shows that there is no such thing as easy money but there is smart money.
