Description

A Warhammer 40,000 novel

When he discovers a prize that could change the face of the galaxy, disgraced Rogue Trader Janus Draik recruits a team to treasure-seeking misfits to claim it. But danger lurks in the darkness…

Listen to it because: The full story behind the Warhammer Quest: Blackstone Fortress game is revealed! Join Janus Draik and his crew as they venture into the depths of the fortress and encounter all manner of deadly foes.

The story: There are those in the great expanse of the galaxy that seek profit wherever it is to be found: the deal makers, the opportunists and explorers – the Rogue Traders. Granted power by an ancient charter, sanctioned by the Emperor Himself, these scoundrels, entrepreneurs and adventurers roam the galaxy in search of fortune and glory.

None perhaps are as hungry for these twin vices as Janus Draik. All but disowned by his wealthy family, regarded as a wayward son of ill repute and little potential, Draik knows he must restore his fortunes soon or his misadventures will see him destitute and discarded.

So it is then that when he finds a truly exceptional prize, one that will return him to his deserved station, Draik recruits a crew of fellow treasure seekers and sets them to the task. Draik's obsession is all-consuming, and he will risk everything to obtain his prize and its many secrets, including his life or even that of his crew.

meh

bland adventure story with a large cast of underdeveloped and 1 dimensional characters. the main character, drake, is one of the worst characters despite receiving the most attention. not bad, but definitely not good.

The best 40k book in a while

oddball characters in the grimdark universe of 40k up against an alien unknowable threat?

unironically one of the best 40k books I've listened to in a while. Everyone has different backstories, interesting motivations, and conflicting goals. Really great stuff.

Like a tie in novel to a boardgame

As a fan if the 41st millennium, this is just ok. The story has obvious bullet points it had to hit, and the writer seemed too constrained. Good for lore junkies or someone who wants a treasure hunt. If frugal give it a pass. I am shameless and will buy the next one too.

so so

half the main characters are missing or glossed over, but it's entertaining in its own right

A few writing issues but overall very engaging

I frankly had a few issues with guessing some of the twists, but besides a few blunt writing choices, it really was an engaging story with a lot going for it.

Reminded me a lot of a movie I saw as a kid called "The Cube". A group of disparate characters essentially stuck in a deadly enigma, but with a nice 40k shade to it all.

Check it out if you like the enigmas and mysteries of the 40k galaxy, like rogue traders or even if you just want some insight on the Kroot and how the interact with humans.

4.5 would be spot on<br />

Great narration in a well layered story. Small touches like bumping into an undercover man of iron, and some minor lore here and there, were nice touches. This title rides the difficult line of appealing to 40k fans and still welcoming a new audience. Narration never broke immersion for me despite men, women and foul xenos having roles.

Great book!

Very well done story. The voice actor is the best I have hear to date from GW stories, very good and making everyone sound different.

Need more BSF!

It's like Treasure Island in space! That's all.

ps: I'd love to see more characters from the board game introduced in future books.
