Description

Mack begins her training at the mages' academy in the hope that, by complying, the stasis spell will be lifted from her old friend Mrs. Alcoon. However, once there, she finds herself surrounded by unfriendly adults and petulant teenagers, the majority of whom seem determined to see her fail.

Feeling attacked on all fronts, Mack finds it harder and harder to keep a rein on her temper. Forced to attend anger management classes and deal with the predatory attentions of Corrigan, the Lord Alpha of the shapeshifter world, her emotions start to unravel. But when she comes across a familiar text within the walls of the mages' library, which might just provide the clues she needs to unlock the secrets of her background and her dragon blood, she realizes that her problems are only just beginning.…

Great half way point in the series!

I love the book but i am still struggling with the main character and the truly stupid choices she makes at times. In the book we had some real forward movement on establishing what and who mack really is. It's a solid story and a fun read, I'd recommend it for anyone who appreciates the urban fantasy genre.

WHAT

I have no other words besides WHST.
What was thjs ending?? How many times do I have to open my mouth in a surprised and, honestly, quite stupid "o".
I loved every second of this book! The story is fluid, enticing and with just the right amount of misery and romance. I like how the author wrote the relationship between Mack and Lord Furriness. I'm loving this series!

Mack drives me nuts!

This book I felt was really slow not much really happened until the end.
Again there are some great characters and cool magical creatures but Mack’s personality is just rubbing me the wrong way. Her internal conflicts are so annoying it’s been the same thing for three books!
The lying to the alpha constantly when he’s done absolutely nothing to her but be kind, she doesn’t deserve him. She needs to grow up! I’m not sure of her actual age but she acts pretty immature and it’s annoying!

After her promise to the mages, Mack now has to attend their magical academy to learn how to master her powers, so the mages will release Mrs. Alcoon. Honestly, the plot was weaker in this book. Sure, there is a subplot involving Alex and the vampires, but most of it revolved around Mack and her day-to-day life at the academy, and Mack trying to learn to control her temper. I like that she is feisty, but too much is not good either.

The setting was my biggest issue with this book. I am very picky when it comes to school/academia settings, and having Mack, a mid-twenties grownup, forced to make friends and play nice with silly teenagers focused on sneaking out so they could drink or catch the eye of their crush just didn’t do it for me. Also, the fact that Mack always had a “go fuck yourself” attitude, but then was suddenly forced to listen to everything the mages told her and be a nice model student just didn’t fit with what we saw in the previous books.

On the other hand, Mack is just being reckless. She is hell-bent on completing her training at the mage academy so they will free Mrs. Alcoon, and it must be some pretty good motivation for her to force herself to go through this joke of an academy, she knows she has 0 chance left, one tiny mistake and she is out, yet she sneaks out at night to go running, because it’s the full moon and she misses the freedom of it. She is risking Mrs. Alcoon’s future for a run under the moon. Even though it is kind of selfless of her to put herself through the academy training to save Mrs. Alcoon, it is also selfish to risk everything for a run under the moon because she doesn’t feel like staying inside at night, and I am not sure if Mack is selfless or selfish, probably a mix of both…

The fact that Mack is forming a friendly bond with Thomas makes little sense to me. I mean, why? Mack never appeared as a forgiving person, and Thomas was immature and mean to her, and somehow she forgave him after a few days and she even became his friend? It just doesn’t seem believable. Thomas is not a bad character per se, but I just didn’t find Mack’s fast friendship with him to be that believable. Sadly, because I didn’t buy her newfound friendship with Thomas, the big ending lost some of its “shock value” (I will not say more so I will not spoil anyone).

The romance is still dragging on. We got some flirting between Mack and Corrigan, but they are both just beating around the bush at that point. I understand Mack’s reluctance to get involved with him and to trust him with her every secret, but for us readers, it is becoming rather frustrating to see them walk around in circles and not go anywhere since book one.

On the positive side though, we finally got an answer as to what exactly Mack is, and there is no more secret between Corrigan and her, so hopefully their relationship will be able to progress in the next book.
